Took him to a dr. appt. on Wednesday and did a urine test. No UTI and no sugar in his urine. So Dr. thinks he is not a diabetic or prediabetic. Other than that should I worry?
Hi
Welcome to the forum!
There are many causes for increased urinary frequency in kids. Extraordinary day time frequency syndrome is one. Here the child produces small quantity of urine frequently and the symptoms go away in 3-4 months. Stress is usually thought to be the cause.
The other reason could be incomplete voiding. This can happen if the child is in a hurry to pass urine. The child stops the urine flow voluntarily and since the bladder is not empty, it will fill up again. You can talk to your son regarding this, and train him and put him on a schedule to pass urine every 2-4 hours to start with and slowly increase the gap.
There are medical causes too like diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus. Small for size bladder is another possibility. Please consult an urologist.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
What about dry mouth. Has he increased his liquid intake due to the other side effects? We've never taken Xyzal at our house so I'm not sure of all the side effects. I do know that Zyrtec makes my children raving lunatics and that side effect was not on the bottle.
He has been taking Xyzal. His frequent urination started about the same time he started taking this new med. I looked it up and didn't see frequent urination as one of their side effects.
Some allergy meds can cause more frequent urination. I know my son is 5 and will have accidents only while on Cold or Allergy meds. Get the Doc to check for sugar but also make sure you tell him which meds he is on for the allergies.
