inguinal hernia
I was diagnosed with a indirect inguinal hernia , but mine doesn't go down into my scrotum but goes upward pulling on my testicle cord. When it's out in its full glory, it's the size of a grapefruit and hurts pretty bad. Is this normal?

I'm deeply sorry for the loss of your brother. It was something that could have been prevented.
In 1986, I lost my younger brother to what the Canadian Royal Mounted police deemed to be a suicide. They found him in a motel room after he was supposed to have shot himself through the left temple. The difficulty that I had with this is the fact they they told us that he was tucked into bed. I'm not sure how someone can shoot himself and then tuck himself in.

I'm sorry to read that your brother passed away from this. Severe pain caused me to go in and get treated. As I mentioned mine was an incarcerated hernia. Further delay would have caused death in part of the bowel due to the blood supply to the bowel being cut off.
My hernia was repaired with a mesh material. Even now adays I still experience discomfort if I try to sleep on my right side. In 2000, I lost my left testicle resulting from a Strep B infection a year after having had complications from a vasectomy. As a child I was born with undescended testicles. The left settled before the age of one however the right did not untill bout the age of 12-13. One urologist thinks that the remaining testicle is not functioning well and therefore has prescribed monthly testosterone injections.
Prior to getting the hernia surgery I was told that there was a possibility of loosing the remaining testicle. I told them to just close things up if the loss of the right testicle was needed.
Currently, I have some more pain in the area at times. I also now have noticed pain on the left side at times or when I lift things. Not sure how they will have to treat that. Due to the Strep B infection, the left testicle was removed from the scrotum instead of the inguinal canal. Part of the scrotum was removed as well. Because they were unsure if they had removed enough tissue and it being necrotizing, they left the scrotum open to heal from the inside out. I'm somewhat hessitant in reporting this to my doctor, as surgery will once again put my remaining testicle at risk. I also don't want surgery as I have had too many as it is. For right now I will wait things out, my wife is aware of it and knows that she will have to take me in as soon as I feel that things are going wrong. In 2009, I ended up with an abscess on top of the hernia scar tissue. I spent three days in emergency where they did nothing untill three days after. The started cutting the abscess open and I had to insist on the stopping and giving me a narcotic before they went any further. A few hours after this I had to follow up for a cycstoscopy that had been booked prior to me having these problems. While I was getting changed for the cystoscopy the abscess started to bleed severely and they had to deal with the bleeding. A day later I had to see our family doctor as I still was experiencing severe pain from the abscess.
My family doctor used NOX gass as an aneasthetic and drained the abscess. He did more for me than what the city hospital did.
I have very little confidence in the so called specialists in the city hospitals.

This urologist was not only deaf but really gave me a feeling that he was incompitent. He told me that he was not sure if I had a hernia and that he was sending me to the general surgeon of the hospital.
When the general surgeon saw me he immediatly booked mm for emergency surgery. When I told him that the urologist had sent me to him, he shook his head.

Please get attention to this problem immediately. My brother died from it 3 years ago.
i am amazed at how many people with all these problems after hernia surgery. no 1 . just by reading these posts you can tell these D.s are all working together as far as that 1 yr malpractice statue of limitstions. by dragging any possable complaint out as long as they can as well as others not even addressing a previous surgery by anothr Dr.. and the blacklist is no lie either. same thing happened to my friend but what happened to him i have yet to read this man whom was 8 inches in length before is right ing. hernia surgery 1 12 yrs ago . was pretty much reduced to a 1 inch penis talking about 3 strikes to a mans ego .o.m.f.g. o aND i forgot to mention wwhen he complained after his forst surgery that his penis was not compleatly coming out into the shaft other than for an erection and that after wards retracted back within his body leaving all the extra foreskin just hanging there. well belieave it or not the same surgeon a year in a half later circumsised him with a diagnosis of belentitue and phyismosis ( forgive my miss spelled words im not a Dr) noing this man had been circumsised at birth, hey it gets better the jerk some how screwed somethin up and he had to back in the hospital to get opened up as everything closed up and he had to rip himself open inorder to relieve his bladder .an same surgeon fixing the disrupted surgical sight some how well put it this way first of all the man is so short he cant stand like a man to **** there is nothing to guide,cat sit like a girl he will **** on the wall in front of him he has to lay across the toilet to pee. ohhhh gets better when he circumsised hem some how now his penis is trapped within his body,he can only feel an erection enternally, can not not relieave himself. and if somehow his penis can be freed all the foreskin to cover it has been removed now wht ?see another Dr. scARES THE HELL OUT OF ME
Hi, I had that in 2006 and it turned out the be an incarcerated hernia. Luckily it did not go into the scrotum. The pain got so bad that I went to see my doctor. Emergency surgery was performed to repair the hernia.
In the case of an incarcerated hernia surgery needs to be done as part of the bowel has restricted blood flow that could result in the death of the effected tissue.
You would be best of to see your doctor about possible surgery.
