itchy urethra

I recently noticed an itch in my urethra. This occurs durring urination and occasionally at random. There is a mild irritation durring urination as well, but nothing painfull. There is no discharge at all. I havent been sexualy active in almost 2 months. Im wondering if a STD check is really necessary and what this could possibly be. Thanks

Very common but neglected  cause of UTI are Mycoplasma genitalia and Ureaplasma urealyticum. Ask your dr to test for these bacteria, they can be transmitted through sexual activity. They are considered STD. Treatment is either oral doxycycline or azithromycin. The best is to talk to your urologist.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How long have you had these symptoms? Was this preceded by any fever?
It is possible that you may have an STD with very mild symptoms - as can happen in men, sometimes.

Since there is no obvious discharge at this point, it would be better just to follow some basic care regimens:
Drink at least 2 liters of water everyday.
Drink cranberry juice if possible as this acidifies urine and is a rich source of vitamin C which would help eliminate any mild infection.
Maintain hygiene in the affected area.
Avoid the use of any harsh chemicals at or near the urethral orifice.
Avoid the use of alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods.
Eat fresh vegetables - especially green leafy vegetable.

If these symtoms persist or undergo exacerbation, do contact your GP or update us for further management.

regards
