lump help

hi
can anyone help?
I have a lump in my right testicle now for 6 weeks, I was prescribed 500mg ciprofloxacin for 3 weeks and started to dissapear in the 2nd week and on the 3rd week was the same size again, went back to a second gp a week later and she prescribed me 2 week course of doxycycline 100mg no pun intended but this has not touched the sides. I am worried, as I lost my left testicle a few years back and am scared of losing this one, I cant understand the first prescription worked and got down to half a pee size and when continuing with the course for the 3rd week it came back again. I have an ultrasound scan this afternoon. I am scared now at this stage I really do not want to lose this one as well, again my sex life is great and if I lose this one then this will all come to a close.
Any advice and help would be appreciated and thanks in advance for any given, I am in Manchester UK
Mark

hi
thanks again for your advice, My gp called me this moring on my cell phone and is arranging a more in depth scan Monday or Tuesday so should know the outcome of this by then, My gp stated that they were looking for a mass but didnt find one I am just wondering if this is a good sign.

Hello,
Unfortunately I am unaware of the health system in your part but it is less likely that a urologist will override a GP. You can call up your GP’s office and discuss your concern with him. He may arrange for an early appointment.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

hi,
Many thanks for you reply, it is a little reasuring, had my ultrasound yesterday and he said that he would fax them urgently to my GP yesterday and they would contact me today, I have heard nothing regarding this, so far. I am just worried that I may lose my right testicle as I have lost my left one a few years ago though this was undescended. I have been on 2 lots of antibiotics and feel that there is more to this.
I was wondering if it may be worth me writing to an urologist at the local Manchester Royal Infirmary to see if they can help me and override my GP.
Any thoughts and views again would be appreciated

Hello,
I can understand your concern. Scrotal masses can be caused by several conditions; the most common are a Varicocele, which is a varicose vein along the spermatic cord; Hydrocele, wherein a fluid collection is present in the scrotum; Spermatocele, a cyst-like mass within the scrotum that contains fluid and dead sperm cells; Hernia; Infection like Epididymitis; or Tumors.  Hydroceles, varicocele, and spermatoceles are noncancerous and usually do not require treatment.

A lump caused by an infection is treated with antibiotics.  I would recommend that you follow up with your Doctor so you can be examined and an ultrasound can be repeated.  If necessary, a biopsy would have to performed to confirm the diagnosis.

I hope it helps. Take care.
