urinary urgency, I wanna ask Darrell if he found a solution in the last 7 seven years ?

Sorry if this is against the rules, but 7 years ago there was a discussion here titled : "Why won't anything work????"   http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Urology/messages/30254.html
- And there was a men Darrell with extremelly similar symptoms. If anybody knows a way I can e-mail him and ask him if he manage to found a way...
- Basically it is about urinary urgency when all the analysis came back negative. No enlarged prostate, no pain, no burning, no discharge, urine culture negative.
Only symptom is urge to urinate wich after taking many antibiotics (prescribed by the doctor even though the analysis was negative) the urge decreased.
I don't have the urge at night (like others do). Even when I was very bad and almost cannot leave the house because the urge were very strong, I still didn't have the urge at night. Cranberry tea didn't help at all.
When I drinked less water - this seem to help even though doctors recomend increase intake of water.
I am a male - 27 year old. Never had urinay problems before.

Male 20s fit&healthy. I've had this debilitating sensation / pain for over 4 years now.  When I sit, drive, stand in one spot for a short period, when anxious or stressed. I've seen countless numbers of GPs and consultants. All tests come back normal. It drives me insane! Walking helps alleviate it. However after one month of abstinence and no masterbation it has completely left me. My life has changed dramatically. Long may it last. I hope this helps you

Hi Everyone

I have had the same symptoms as alot of people on this forum.  My story started 14 years ago when I was at church on Christmas day.  I had this sudden urge to go to the toilet and it came completely out of the blue.  It was so bad I sort of had a paniky feeling and I had to leave during mass.  It was the worst feeling in my life.  Since then I find lots of challenges in my life due to the fear of needing the toilet when I can't get to it.

Along with the constant urge to urniate I have pain in my testicles, between my anus and testicles, a tight feeling in my anus, pressure in my bladder, and a sort of weird pain in my penis.  I find when driving it's especially bad with the sitting position and the vibration of the car.

To date I have had a colonoscopy 12 years ago which showed up prostatitis and I was also in hospital getting my bladder stretched twice. Nothing worked although I do get periods of 2/3 months when the symptoms are alot better.  Last year I was at the doctors again and I got sent for another colonoscopy and a prostate biopsy and both came back negative.  I have abosolutely no idea what is causing this and it is completely ruining my life.  Doctors give you no confidence in finding a solution which makes me want to give up on life.   I think it is some sort of muscle weakness or nerve damage as the pressure down there is immense and I when i think about it I feel my anus tighten up.  The doctor has mentioned stress to me but I don't beleive that because I went on holiday last year to cyprus and the whole week I was there I had the pressure in my bladder worse than anything before.  Now I know I was not stressed on holday if anything I get stressed because I can't get a solution.  I just want my life back and I just want to stop having to avoid situations as you only get one life and I feel  that it is passing me by!!!  Going back to the doctors on Monday this must be about the 20th time!!!!

If anyone has any advice please feel let me know before I give up!!!!

I came across this a few months ago and I thought that now is as good a time as any to share my affliction.

Around mid February, I was lying in bed reading a book and needed to urinate. I thought 'i'll finish this chapter and then i'll go' but before I could, a sudden and sharp pain began in my groin and it felt like I lost all control of my bladder and that I was going to go there and then whether I liked it or not. I rushed to the toilet to avoid the embarrasment of having an accident. Passing urine stung and burned like i've never experienced and immediately after passing urine, I felt like I still needed to go. My penis itself was very sore and very tender to the touch. Anyway, this pain had passed by the following morning however the urge to urinate was still there. After a week it seemed to clear up and I thought that I was back to normal.

It's been plagueing me on and off ever since that day. It seems to come and go; staying for a week with no let up and then disappearing for two in sporadic patterns. The pain hasn't returned though I do get, as mentioned by jimbo21, general pain in the pelvic and groin area such as shooting pains and what feels like a very sensitive tip of the penis. I am also suffering from the constipation and bloating.

I'm not sure if fellow commenters suffering from this are circumsized? As many people have said doctors, mine included, seem to be either baffled or ignorant and I feel that i've now reached the stage whereby I need to find a diagnosis myself as my GP won't/can't.

There is bound to be a common link between each of us and if we find it then maybe we have a good chance of beating this debilitating problem!

Sorry to report that things haven't been going well for me.  I have been keeping a log of my condition.  In a scale of 1 to 10, I used to have anywhere betreen 1 and 7 days.  For the last 6 months, the range has became 3 to 9. The days of feeling almost normal is gone.  Now most day I have constant pain the groin area, some days I even have trouble sleeping. It's been over 3 years and this thing is really affecting the quality of my life. Having sex makes my symptom worse and naturally my wife is not happy about that.  I'm in my 40s now and I don't know how to handle the next 20 years.

Hi everyone,

I had the same symptoms with always having the urge to urinate, especially when driving to/from work and during the day.  No urinary symptoms at night.  My Primary care and urologist tests came back normal.  My primary care then started me on Paxil, an antidepressant and anti-anxiety med.  It stopped all the urinary urge symptoms.  I could even drink a cup of coffee or an energy drink.  You should all ask your doctor to write a prescription for Paxil or another anti-anxiety med.  They've really changed my life.

I'm a 25 year old male having the same problem, for about 6 weeks now. I haven't had all of the investigations that everyone else has had, but I have the EXACT same symptoms. The doctor did a full urine analysis  which came back completely normal, no sign of infection. No pain, blood or cloudiness. I did have some burning all along the urethra at night for a couple of days, following a particularly potent curry but that passed. Maybe that was just a secondary infection from the problem.

Incidentally it went away over Christmas. Or I didn't really notice it much. But since it started I've definitely reduced my water intake, which sort of messed up the bowel movements.

It still feels as if I have a little drip of pee trying to come down the urethra  2 minutes after uriniating. Nothing changes it, and it came on immediately after an ejaculation, and hasn't changed much since, apart from a few hours here and there, and over christmas.

Of the two sphincter muscles holding the bladder shut (one in the bladder neck, and the other just below the prostate) I think the bladder neck sphincter has stopped working properly. It feels like urine is just coming too far, and it's up to the second, lower muscle to hold it back.

No leakage in the day or at night. It's just infuriating going to bed forcing yourself to go to sleep anyway. I rarely wake up with full blown symptoms, they tend to develop as the day wears on.

I've wondered if this is just hypochondria, stress related, or otherwise psychological. The amount of attention I give it definitely plays a role; the less I think about it, the less I feel it, but it's always there.

I'm glad I've found this forum. While the last post was over six months ago, I was wondering how everyone is doing with their problem, if they've had a diagnosis or anything that has actually helped? Please let us know if you have a breakthrough. I'm off to the GP again today... going to ask for a referral to the Urologist.

I have the exact same symptom as you, frequence urination, pain in the pelvic and groin area, and pain at the tip of my penis.  It's been going on for about 6 months now and my urologist told me there is nothing he can do for me.  Urinalysis never show any infection.

I think you may be onto something with the yeast. My symptoms have just got worse after a fever and a bout of antibiotics. Take digestive enzymes to combat the yeast and make the urine more alkali. Let me know if you feel any better.

Seems to me that some strange forces are at work here, whats going on with our bodies! There is a obvious pattern of symptoms surrounding frequent urination/bladder pressure! I too have been suffering from this for 7 months.. Came on over night. Excessive alcohol/strtess may be a major cause factor but im only 24 and most 24 year olds drink excessively and are fine but everyoone is built differently! Symptoms in order of appearence include constant bladder pressure, frequent urination, fewer morning erections & weakened erections/ orgasms due to the constant pressure, lower back/kidney pain, full bloated feelings, strange bowel movements, constipated, shocking sensation in testcles that comes and goes and i have to strain to pass gas comes out like a whisper sssshh.!!  The lack of morning erections and weakened erection is my scariest symptom is anyone else affected in this way or am i alone with this matter!?!?!? Ive had every test known to man done scopes, scans, ultra sounds and my bladder and prostate looked fine! Ive tried antibiotics, detrol for OAB, flomax for prostate, but no improvement! Resently ive started getting acupunture and it helps to relax me and so helps with symptoms, also it is good to have sometime regular (i go twice a week) focasing me on getting better, rather than my urologist telling me take X, Y & Z drugs go away for 2 months and come back if there is no improvement! I dont know what is the cause and what is the cure but i dont plan to live with this for the rest of my life! And lets face it, is up to us to find our own cures becuase its pretty obvious many doc's dont strive to cure only to mask the symptoms with drugs!! My reserch has lead me down many avenues, some possible things i feel might be an underlining cause of my problems are 1)yeast infections; many people think this is a womans problem but ive had yeast infections in the past, 4 in total. 3 i got off my girlfiend when she was on the pill/antibiotics but once i got one just from excessive drinking/stress in a hot climate. Yeast can travel up inside the prostate/bladder and cause the frequent urination. We've all been on antiboitics at some stage, they cause intestine yeast to grow out of control and spread, leading to irregular bowel movements, gas, bloating, hives, itchy eyes endless symptoms! 2) Many of the muscles around the bladder and genitals can be weakened due to physical activites, chronic coughing/ vomiting, stress etc. and cause our symptoms. I believe i may have pulled a muscle under the pubic bone maybe the infamous PC muscle but nto sure exactly! Shortly before my symptoms came,  i was pretty ill and spent the some of the night vomiting,at one point  i  felt a pulling sensation above my penis under the pubic bone as if my penis was pulled inwards and i vomited, strange feeling! I plan to discuss this with my urologist soon and get a scan of these muscles to see if there is any abnormalities 3) Nerve damge in bladder, but this should be eased with OAB dugs!

At the moment im tackling this problem, with an anti yeast diet (no bread nor beer), acupunture, stretching muscles around the groin, kegal excerises ( has anyone had any improvement with these?, i feel i have a stronger erection but no improvent with frequency).

Sorry im ranting on here but i hope some of this makes sense to someone and hopefully we can piece together this puzzle!

I look forward to hearing what people think!?

I went to see my PT again yesterday and she probed me pretty thoroughly. I mean it was a full bore exploration. Throughout the treatment I did not not feel any pain or tenderness. None whatsoever. She told me that she could not feel any trigger points anywhere. She checked everything externally too and although there were a couple of slightly tight places, touching them did not cause me any discomfort and she felt that they were pretty benign. If in fact I have CPPS, why don't I have trigger points anywhere or the kind of pain that I read about here on the forum? Except for a time when I felt a charlie horse like feeling in my left calf and up my leg a few times, I have never felt any pain anywhere other than the one I've always complained about; the raw, irritated, inflamed feeling between the base of my penis to my perineum, which waxes and wanes is always worse sitting down then standing up. That, and frequency with an almost constant annoying feeling of needing to go, is what I have been suffering pretty much every day since last Monday, April 15th. Before that I was at least able to sit without discomfort.

I continue to suffer with this clenching, (involuntary contraction when I try to urinate) but now I'm starting to feel like it's my anxiety that is causing me to clench. Maybe the first time it really was an involuntary reflex, but now as I sit down to void I think about not clenching and I can't relax. The new symptom I've developed is this feeling of having to have a bowel movement, this full feeling, but I can't go. I also have recently needed to strain to pass gas and have been more constipated than usual. Any thoughts?

Have you ever heard of interstitial cystitis? One of the symptoms is the urge to urinate even after relieving the bladder. There is no cure for it but it is treatable with a med called elmiron

I finally started feeling better right around the beginning of November. From that time until January 4th, 08, I was basically normal. I just had two bad days in December and to be honest, I have no idea what triggered the problem, even though I suspect it was something I ate or drank.

On December 4th, 07 I went out to eat and had some Mexican food. The food came with some green chilie, that I had a little bit of. When I went back to work, I went to the bathroom and when I sat down I realized I still felt like I had to go. I thought to myself, "Oh no, not again." From then until now I have gotten progressively worse. God how I hate this.

I have the same symptoms as before. An almost constant feeling of needing to use the restroom even after I just go. I have respite sometimes, but it's generally all the time. I just make myself hold it for at least three hours. The uncomfortable feeling does not get worse as my bladder fills up. It just stays uncomfortable. I don't have any pain. I feel way better when I'm walking than when I'm sitting down. I can sleep with no problem. I usually get a good nights sleep. Of course, sex in any form is out of the question. It makes my symptoms a 100 times worse.  I haven't indulged since October of 07. Isn't that sad?

I'm seeing the last urologist in my plan on the 14th. After that my GP is thinking of sending me to a research hospital. I am so discouraged. What can't I just be normal?

Blimey I am surprised that anyone remembered that post. Well I am online trying to find answers again,so I will give you my story so far. I had all the urology tests etc. but noone ever got to the bottom of it. I became very down as the situation was going on for months. I would say about 10-12 months later the symptoms started to relent, over time my symptoms of frequency  declined from what I would say on a scale of one to ten about 10 to maybe a 1 or 2. For the past five or so years I always knew it was there but my symptoms where very, very mimimal even where I considered myself to be back to normal and even where some of my freinds would go to the bathroom and I would think wow that hasn't been long since they last went! I had 2 more kids = 3, got a new job and did normal things. 1 month ago I had a UTI, I know this because I had a slight pain, frequency and it was hard to pee but it sounds funny but these symptoms were different from the ones before. after temethroprim it went away and I went back to normal. Now my frequency is back about every five minutes but it feels different than when I had the (proper) UTI. I have a docs apptmnt next week for a chat. It can get me down but I have consololation that it cleared up considerably last time and I hope it will again. I have been under stress lately and Ithink that has a lot to do with it. Keep your chin up it will go eventually. Please update me with your story. Best regards. Darrell

Have you gone to see a urologist yet? That's what you should do first and really advocate for your health. If you are feeling anxious and panicky about the constant need to go, I would get on some anxiety meds. That's what I had to do because I was going crazy. I know what you are going through. Keep the faith.

i am male and 23, and for a number of months have had to live with the sensation that i constantly need the toilet. I do not need to go any more regularly, but because my bladder constantly feels full, i am forcing out urine just because i feel i have to. more often than not, there is very little urine, soemtimes none at all, and occassionally an ordinary sized stream. There is no blood, no infection, only pain is in the bladder but only because it feels so stretched, does sometimes feel worse when sitting. Does not feel worse after sex or masturbation but can sometimes make it harder to get erect. Basically it always feels like i need the toilet, regardless of whether i need to or not. This is affecting every aspect of my life. I cannot sleep at night, therefore i am unable to fucntion during the day. Does anybody know what is wrong with me. i feel isolated and depressed. i am desperate

It's me strobers. I finally started having some good days after several months of this hell. Of course, I completely gave up sex because that's what caused my problem to begin with. From April 6th until yesterday October 9th, I've been celibate and have had a few good days in a row when I felt just about normal. Besides refraining from sex, I've cut out all acidic foods, take Pre-lief which gets rid of acid in food (just in case) cut out all tea, coffee and alcohol. Now I'm back to where I was in April and am so, so, so frustrated. I'm going to go see my urologist in a couple of weeks for a prostrate ultra sound, but I know that it's going to be a waste of time. At this point it has to be one of two things. Either A. I have some kind of nerve damage that can't be measured by tests or B. I have a psychological problem. I have some questions for you guys. Answer truthfully as maybe if we pool our collective resources we can find a pattern somewhere. How many of you get worse when you have sex? How many of you have other physical problems that you are dealing with besides the bladder issue? Personally, I developed tinnitus and eye inflammation since my bladder issue started. How many of you have noticed that your symptoms are worse when you are sitting? How many of you have noticed that you are living your life around your problem? How many of you are prone to anxiety, pessimism or catastrophic thinking? We don't have to suffer alone or in silence. Let's try to support each other and get to the bottom of this.

I'm 21 years of age and have been dealling with this now for almost three years. I have been in and out of my urologist's office a few times but because i work on a ship i dont see him for six monthes at a time. I have done every test they have at the urologist. My doc now seems to think this involves nerves in the bladder that maybe damaged or "act up". This is the first thing, since possibly haveing an infection, that makes sence. What ever this is it really sucks because when it is bad i cannot sleep at all. This has definatly changed my life. It has made me stop drinking alchol because although it doesnt get bad right away after drinking awhile it will get bad again. I'm now on amitriptaline, which helps deaden acting up nerves.

Same problems here. Been going on for 4 years.  Pee all day and sleep all night.  Mine comes and goes in 3-4 month cycles.  3 months pee all the time, 3 months normal.   I've had cystocopy, urinary dynamic, CT Scan.  Had full physical and blood work all normal.  Never an infection, blood in urine, or inflamed prostate.  Tried every OAB med. know to man as well as antibotics.  My urologist told me yesterday that he has no idea what is wrong with me so it has to be psychological.  He say its has to be anxiety & stress.  I say BS as I'm the most laid back person I know.  I don't know where to go next as the urologist says he can't do anything else for me?
