Vitamin D supplements

Hi!  I was newly diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency.  My level is at a 4 and was prescribed 50,000 1x/wk for 12 weeks. I was wondering if I could take an OTC supplement to take in between my prescribed dosage.

Thanks!

Never diminish the potential toxicity of vitamins. Take your prescription exactly as your doctor ordered - then afterward, you can go to the brand of vitamins and supplements you will require for maintenance. If I can be of assistance in this matter, don't hesitate to ask. Vitamins and supplements are a family business of mine. Your D levels were incredibly low. Be careful.

No  need.  A level of 4 is kind of low. The normal level is about 30, but some physicians recommend 50. The 50,000 regiman is usually prescribed for non-compliant pati9ents who won't take supplements every day. Too much D3 can cause low blood calcium levels, so I would go along with your physician until your levels return to normality
