I started taking 1000 mgs of vitamin c.I have noticed since I've been taking that amount that I have stomach aches and sometimes diarreah. My question is-how much vitamin c should I take? I drink oj too.

can you take up to 5000mg, 1g of vitamin C/day safely?  I've seen one study where it helped asthmatics but I don't know if it damages the liver or has other side effects

is it dangerous to take high doses of vitamin C if you have asthma?  I took high doses and ended up with bad wheezing and had an infection.  I'm still wheezing after 11 weeks so maybe it screwed my immune system

thank you for all of your advice.I think I am going to quit taking the vitamin c for awhile and see if my stomach issues go away. But I will continue to drink oj!:)

yesterday I skipped the vitamin c and had no stomachache. Is a glass of oj once or twice a day enough vitamin c?

You can try Buffered vitamin C if you find that regular ascorbic acid upsets your stomach. An esterified form of vitamin C is also available, which may be easier on the stomach for those who are prone to heartburn.
The best way to take vitamin C supplements is 2 - 3 times per day, with meals, depending on the dosage. Some studies suggest that adults should take 250 - 500 mg twice a day for any benefit.

I have been taking 500mg now once a day.It seems better,but still some stomachaches.
I am going to go a few days without any vitamin c and see if my stomach issues go away.
If I drink a glass of oj everyday is that enough vitamin c?

Vitamin c can cause stomach upset! Try 500mg if  that is OK then you can try taking it in the morning and then again in the evening.
