Sunday Weigh In - Oct 17, 2010

Another week has come and gone, and it's certainly beginning to feel like fall.  Even though the temps aren't all that low, there is that certain little "nip" in the air that tells us "winter will be here soon".  Along with fall, though, comes more willingness, on my part, to get outside and walk or do yard work, because we are past the stifling heat of summer.

I've done quite well this week, and I'm pretty proud of it, although I didn't lose a huge amount of weight.  Last week, I was at 146.2; this week, I'm at 145.6, so I only lost 0.6 lbs, but I feel good about it, because I feel like I actually worked off some fat, not just water weight.

We even went out with my Aunt yesterday for our usual Saturday breakfast; I ordered a huge omelet, filled with spinach, diced ham, tomatoes, avocados and mushrooms; that came with home fries and toast.  A few weeks ago, I would have devoured the whole thing; however, I'm very happy to report that I couldn't even eat 1/2 of it. Guess what I'm having for breakfast this morning!!  I've really been trying to watch my portions and I think it's paying off, as it no longer takes as much food to fill me up.

In addition, my "winter neighbor" has been here for the past month, and she loves to walk, just like I do.  It's been fun for the past few weeks, to come home from work and go for a nice long walk.  We get our exercise and catch up on the day's news, all at the same time.  She will be leaving on Tues and won't be back until after the first of Jan; we'll see how well I do without her!!

So, how about yourselves?  I've noticed that we've not had a very big response to either the Challenge or the Weigh In posts for the past several weeks; what's everyone up to?  How is your weight loss going?

If you are having success with your journey, please let us know, so we can cheer you on; if you are having set backs, please let us know that, as well, so we can try to help get you back on the way again.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful week ahead.

Remember: there are no failures; only set backs.

I have really been sticking to my diet and I have actually started to exercise, but I have gained 2.2 lbs this week.  I have contacted a dietician that I worked with previously who is an expert in PCOS and diet.  I am going to begin working with her tomorrow via phone and internet.

Unfortunately, I have a physical coming up on Sat.  My internist is obnoxious when it comes to weight.  I do not even know what I am going to say in response to his rants.  I have not had a physical in two years because of my weight and not wanting to deal with him concerning this topic. I am open to ideas regarding this matter, so if anyone has any, please let me know.

Thanks Barb135. I had everything checked a month ago. No problems, excellent numbers.

It's my emotional / everything else eating. I've dealt with it for years. I switched from over eating to smoking when I was 14 and then quit and gained a lot of weight. Now I'm off cigarettes and food, if you know what I mean. The way you feel when you reach for those things doesn't just go away because you quit reaching for them. You have to replace them with something. But I must say sometimes pizza wins over exercise too many times. I think I have it under control for now.

This will be a lifelong struggle for me. It's easier than it was when I started but it's never off my mind.

thanks Barb,it's so nice to be able to check in with you and everyone here. I had my levels tested again 2 weeks ago and have posted about that (with numbers) on the thyroid forum. I've only been taking the T3 for a couple of months so my doctor is unwilling to tweak anything yet, given what my bloods are saying.

I'm so inspired by your description of your lovely walks that I am going to get dressed now and go for a stroll myself (it's 1:30pm here). I will walk to a nice cafe and have some lovely soup! I'm off work today and have been resting all morning but I'm sure some v. gentle exercise is probably a really good idea. I'd planned to do a yoga class but actually don't feel quite up for that yet. Maybe Friday (my next day off)

thanks for being there and for caring.

YL xx

Well, it's good to see you both back again, after an absence.

Tigerlilly -- I'm sorry, you've had issues with overeating; that happens sometimes if there is extra stress or something going on.  On the other hand, maybe you should get checked for medical issues that might cause your weight to creep up (thyroid, insulin resistance, etc).  Even though you've never had them before, there's always a chance they can turn up. That's what happened to me.

yallolorry -- I know how frustrating it is when you are doing "everything right" and the weight won't budge.  Please don't be demoralized for posting only small fluctuations.  I think I've lost and gained the same 10 pounds at least monthly for the past 2 yrs, but I keep trying.  If you are suffering from excess fatigue again, maybe you need to get your thyroid levels retested and see if you need an increase in your med.

My walks are very pleasant; it's fall and although people often say that Florida doesn't have "seasonal changes", I have to disagree with them.  Even though the temps are still very warm, all you have to do is look around and see the leaves changing colors, sense the change in the air, etc....... The sad thing, is that there's only one more day for walking with my neighbor, because she will be leaving on Tues to go back to OR.  She will be back in January, but it will be a long 3 months without her.

Best to both of you......

hi everyone, I've just popped in to say sorry I've been quite off radar, my weight STILL hasn't shifted and I got a bit demoralised posting only slight fluctuations and no real progress every week so have not posted for while. I'm fed up about it but also not beating myself up. I'm just trying to stay healthy. Have just had to reduce my hours at work to 3 days a week and hope that by now not having to struggle to work 5 days I can perhaps find the time and energy to do a little light exercise which might help. With getting tired again I have found myself turning to carbohydrates and sweet things to give me an energy boost these last few weeks. I will try and stop that now and will let you know next week how I'm doing. sending peace and light.

so glad to hear you are doing nice walks Barb, sounds idyllic, Tigerlily I'll be sending you positive vibes this week and hope we can both avoid over eating - together. :)

Well, I'm not weighing in today but still wanted to check in with everyone. I have been having a hard time with overeating for a while now (more than usual) and feel like I've finally come back around to getting my weight back down to where I would like it 124-125. I have not been at or below my goal since June 18. I have been slowly creeping upward and need to get back down, especially with the holidays around the corner. I'm going to stay away from the scale until next Sunday. I'm worried if I get on I'll discourage myself. I will be here next week and every week after that. Just because I don't do well every week doesn't mean I can't check in and let everyone know what is going on.

I'll see you all next week.
