Sunday Weigh In May 13, 2018

Happy Mother's Day and good morning...

Wow - another week has gone by already; do they seem like they're going faster or is it just me?  :-)

How is everyone doing on this lovely journey we've undertaken?  My week has been less than stellar, but most of them have been that way lately; however, weight-wise, I've done well.  It's possible that could be stress related but as long as it's not going down too fast, I'll say it's due to my own efforts.

I've been doing quite well with most things, diet related.  My functional medicine Nurse Practitioner wants me to be gluten, dairy, sugar and soy free... soy is never a problem because I didn't ever get into the habit of consuming soy products because they're bad for the thyroid; dairy has been pretty easy to eliminate, though I do use a splash of milk or a "small" chunk of cheese once in a while when I cook (my NP says that's not too serious).  It's getting easier to eliminate the gluten but I have to watch "everything" because it's hidden in so many foods.  Sugar is even getting easier if I can ignore some of the things my husband brings home from the bakery department or the Russell Stover store...lol

My downfall, though isn't any of those things - it's salt... and yes, I'm also supposed to be on a salt-free diet due to high blood pressure and some other heart-related issues.  My salty "go to" is potato chips.  I've managed to go from regular to "lightly salted" so I'm making progress there... but with potato chips, salt isn't the only problem we have to worry about - there's a lot of fat there as well and it's not the more healthful type. I've tried different types of chips and/or crackers to take the place of my potato chips, but nothing fills the bill.

For me, getting off chips is like getting off sodas or chocolate is for some others... just something I have to work at.  At least, with chocolate one can acquire a taste for dark chocolate, which is actually good for you... lol

Anyway... all of that said, in spite of my chip/salt addiction, I've managed to lose 0.8 lbs this week so it's better than many/most of my previous weeks.  I was, actually, down 2 lbs, at one point, but I picked up 1+ lb overnight, which means it's not fat, it's fluid when it comes and goes that quickly.

So that's my story... what about everyone else?  What's on your agenda for Mother's Day?
I don't get to see my kids/grandkids, which means I don't have to cook, so my husband is taking me out for lunch...

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful and successful week~~

Sarah... I missed your answer yesterday - too much going here with my own daughter having issues with her estranged husband and child issues.

We know 3.2 lbs in a week is too much, but under your circumstances, we know what the problem is.   I know we can't control how our body reacts to these things, so here's hoping your system gets back to normal soon, so your weight loss gets under control.

When I was dealing with my Auntie, they kept telling me I couldn't take care of her, if I didn't take care of myself, first.  It's true that in order to help others through tough times, we have to be on top of our game.  Take care of yourself.

I hate to even write this but i am down 3.2 lbs.  My poor belly is so messed up right now.  It will straighten out but until then.....

I quit salt and started using Mrs Dash or garlic powder.  That was tougher than i thought.

Spent the day with my kids and grandbabies.  Reflecting on the day i am reminded of what my momma used to say  "this is why you have kids when you are young!"  The peacefulness of the house tonight is truly a blessing!  Oh and i turned 57 on Sunday too........

Happy Mothers Day!

I worked my Dad's estate sale all day yesterday (in the hot sun -- someone brought me a Coke and I drank the WHOLE THING without diluting it). Ate a Subway sandwich that was heavy on sodium (I assume). Couldn't even bend my puffy fingers this morning. Husband and son made me Mother's Day breakfast featuring potatoes and bacon and scrambled eggs. Then I remembered to weigh in. (Oops. Bad timing.)

Anyway, with all of that, I'm up about .4 from last week. It could all go away by tomorrow morning if they don't try to cook me another meal today. lol

0.4 lb isn't so bad after all that... You've must have done very well throughout the week

Each one of those things (being in the sun all day, the coke, the Subway sandwich, or the breakfast) would have increased my weight by more than that; add them all together and I'd really be in trouble...

Hopefully, they won't cook you another meal today and it will go away by tomorrow morning, so you can start the new week with a wash...
