Happy Mother's Day and good morning...
Wow - another week has gone by already; do they seem like they're going faster or is it just me? :-)
How is everyone doing on this lovely journey we've undertaken? My week has been less than stellar, but most of them have been that way lately; however, weight-wise, I've done well. It's possible that could be stress related but as long as it's not going down too fast, I'll say it's due to my own efforts.
I've been doing quite well with most things, diet related. My functional medicine Nurse Practitioner wants me to be gluten, dairy, sugar and soy free... soy is never a problem because I didn't ever get into the habit of consuming soy products because they're bad for the thyroid; dairy has been pretty easy to eliminate, though I do use a splash of milk or a "small" chunk of cheese once in a while when I cook (my NP says that's not too serious). It's getting easier to eliminate the gluten but I have to watch "everything" because it's hidden in so many foods. Sugar is even getting easier if I can ignore some of the things my husband brings home from the bakery department or the Russell Stover store...lol
My downfall, though isn't any of those things - it's salt... and yes, I'm also supposed to be on a salt-free diet due to high blood pressure and some other heart-related issues. My salty "go to" is potato chips. I've managed to go from regular to "lightly salted" so I'm making progress there... but with potato chips, salt isn't the only problem we have to worry about - there's a lot of fat there as well and it's not the more healthful type. I've tried different types of chips and/or crackers to take the place of my potato chips, but nothing fills the bill.
For me, getting off chips is like getting off sodas or chocolate is for some others... just something I have to work at. At least, with chocolate one can acquire a taste for dark chocolate, which is actually good for you... lol
Anyway... all of that said, in spite of my chip/salt addiction, I've managed to lose 0.8 lbs this week so it's better than many/most of my previous weeks. I was, actually, down 2 lbs, at one point, but I picked up 1+ lb overnight, which means it's not fat, it's fluid when it comes and goes that quickly.
So that's my story... what about everyone else? What's on your agenda for Mother's Day?
I don't get to see my kids/grandkids, which means I don't have to cook, so my husband is taking me out for lunch...
~~Wishing everyone a wonderful and successful week~~
