Trying to lose a little weight and need suggestions

I'm a college student who is looking to lose up to 25 or 30 lbs. Recently I got fed up with being over the weight I want to be at and decided to cut some calories and start exercising. It seems to me like I'm cutting enough calories but I'm not able to count how many I'm consuming every day. I do at least 60 minutes of bike/step/treadmill 5 days a week and have been doing so for 3 weeks. The problem is I don't seem to be losing any weight :-( Does anyone have an suggestions as to why or what I can do to have that start happening? Do I need to just give it some time? I've heard "it takes a while to put the weight on so it'll take a while to get it back off" but I don't know if that's true. Help?

you should really just drink water when your thirsty, dont force yourself to get in a set amount of glasses a day. To the orginal poster, you sound like your doing alot of cardio maybe your not consuming enough calories for your weight and the exercise you do, that could cause you to not lose weight.

Here are some things that helped me shed 146 lbs naturally through diet, exercise and changing my lifestyle.

Try eating six small meals (3 meals, 3 snacks) daily.  It not only keeps you full throughout the day, but keeps your metabolism working.

Change your exercise routines at least every other day.  In an effort for your body to function efficiently, it quickly adapts to your exercise routine.  You get the best benefits by alternating your exercise routines, varying your workouts between strength and cardio or increasing the level of difficulty or extending the time of the activity.

Stay plugged into this social network of friends ... support is critical to your success!

Surround yourself with positive thoughts and motivation ... it truly helps in keeping a "can do" outlook.

If you are stuck on a plateau, then try this ...

Day One and Day Two - Lower calorie intake by 200 calories.  Example, if normally eating 1,500 calories, lower to 1,300.
Day Three - Increase calorie intake by 200 additional calories.  Example, if normally eating 1,500 calories, increase to 1,700.
Day Four - Return to normal dietary caloric intake.  Exampke, if normally eating 1,500 calories, return to 1,500.

Sometimes, the self-preservation of our bodies tends to think our weight loss program is starvation and our brain tries to hold on to every calorie it can.  Our body becomes efficient in using the calories and also calls for us to conserve energy by making us feel tired.  When you fluctuate the calories, like explained in the example above, the first two days allows your body to have a deficit of calories that should summon a weight loss.  In eating the additional calories on the third day, it sends the signals to the brain that indicates you are not starving and your body then allows the weight to drop.

Hope this gives you a place to start.  Will be glad to help should you have any questions.  Best wishes ... and just remember, slow and steady wins the race!  Your body will eventually give in to your weight loss effort as it really is physics .... what you eat (calories in) minus what is expended (calories burned) equals what you gain or lose.

Keep that CAN DO Attitude ... and Never give up!  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Sunshine wishes and many hugs ...

I think losing weight is different for everyone with the same concepts.  you know you are doing the right things by cutting calories, eating the right things, and exercising.  I think each person needs to do it in their own way though.  i see that you are doing your recommended 60 minutes of cardio training, but what about strength training?  it helps to accelerate calorie burn if you are building some muscle also; i suggest perhaps investing in some free weights of at least 5 lbs each, or using them at the gym.  you can do squats with them for legs, and tricep kick backs for arms, to begin with.  then increase the weight and increase the types and amount of strength training programs.  i lost 20 lbs by drinking lots of water (which i see you do) and also integrating some plain (no sugar or sugar substitutes) green tea (iced or hot); i do 30 minutes of cardio every day (5 days), but every day i do 30 minutes of strength training also.  try to alternate, legs one day, arms the next.  you can do ab exercises everyday without fear of hurting your muscles as long as you dont over do it.

try cutting out any white food. (potatoes, white rice, white bread, sugar) High fiber foods also help (broccoli, salad, whole grain bread, apples)

thanks for the advice. I know water is a big part of being healthy in more ways than just losing weight but it's just so hard to get it all in :-) I'll try upping my water intake more and see what a difference it makes

Hi,
Water is a big part of losing weight and I don't know about you but, I got fed up with all the weight loss programs and started my own research and I finally figured out how to lose alot of weight fast.
I lost almost 40 lbs in less that 3 months  and kept it off for over nine months.
What I did find is certain foods when combined work in harmony to lose all my excess body fat and weight.
I have never felt so good eating delicious tasting foods.
The trick to losing weight  is not changing the foods you eat but putting certain foods together
that work in harmony to lose alot of weight.
A friend of mine used a few of my homemade diets and lost 47 in a little over six weeks.
Now I send anyone that ask a Free sample menu of my diet foods and combinations.
I call it "The Incredible Edible Diet"  because of how tasty my menu's are.
If you want  a free menu email me and I will send you one

Just a thought, I didn't start losing weight, at least not noticeably, until I upped the amount of water I drink every day. I now shoot for at least 2 32 ounce bottles, which would be 8 glasses, but this is in addition to the tea and coffee and milk I drink. It helps me cut calories and I'm finally noticing that I'm losing weight. You may already be drinking a lot of water but in case you weren't.
