Why do companies miss lead about calories??

Why is it when you purchase something that looks like it should only have one serving in it and it has 2 or 3 and so when you are shopping with 3 kids as I do and trying to shop healthy you end up picking something up thinking wow this is low in calorie and fat and I can take this to work and eat it. I get to work starting reading the package further and realize you have more than one serving in the container.

I know personally I have a hard time stopping at that one serving if more is right in front of me. Anyway, my point is why isnt' there some kind of law that states if it is sold in a small package it must be either all the calories for all the servings in the box or only one serving in the box??

Just my opinion......

I did it with a salad...

While out shopping I went by the deli department and they had freshly made salads out and to my luck they were on sale. I was so excited. I looked at the calories and fat and carbs, as well as the dietary fiber on the back and it all was low cal, low fat, low carb and had 2 grams of dietary fiber. I was excited! I bought thinking yay this is going to be great for lunch! I brought it to work and after eating it I decided for god knows what reason to read further on the package! It was 5 servings!! Granted I didn't eat but a 4th of the salad so I probably had maybe a little over the 1 serving but still why didn't they just make it one serving. Why if the store is going to make the salad why make it multiple servings and pacakage it like it is one. With one fork inside.....

I think it is a marketing strategy but if we are going to attack fast food places and little debi snacks for making people fat then maybe we should be strictor on companies that sell stuff that is potentially good for us. Make them package it in bold or in another way so you know there is more than one serving when you pick it up.

I so know what you mean, it is very decieving. I recently got some good for you cerial bars you get 4 packets with 3 slices in each little pack 95 calories a pack I thought great to keep in my bag for those little hunger moments that creep up on you, off i went with one pack, later in the day i got hungry so ate my 3 slices, well when i went to enter the info on the food diary i was so upset to find that each slice was 95 calories and not each little pack, as you said if you open a little pack 95 cals who would think that would mean just on bit of it, its so annoying, who has time to read every detail every time?

I don't like it when it says one serving and it's really two. This is typical of juice. People don't realize that 4 oz for a baby or adult is really a full serving. The carton used to say that and now it says 8 oz is one serving. 8oz of juice is 2 servings and a whole lot of sugar.

I see what your saying but I just multiply it for myself in my head and if I don't like it I don't buy it. I like buying small single serving bags but they are very expensive and if you get 10 little bags you'll eat 10 little bags. I do wish they had more of that stuff around so you could just buy a taste but most people don't want just a taste that's the problem :)

I get your opinion!
