energy

pre pregnancy i was a workoutaholic. i worked out 5-7 days a week for 1-2 hours a day. i'd been like that since i was in high school. my swim coach made us workout and practice 6 days a week for 4-5 hours a day (needless to say i was in awesome shape then). but since having my twin boys i have zero energy. i know i need to work out. i WANT to work out but i just don't have the energy. i do watch what i eat. i don't eat nearly as much as i did when i was pregnant and i eat healthy. i take vitamins, drink lots of water....but nada. nothing.

so my question is...does anyone have a suggestion for raising energy levels? or just something that gives you a boost during the day? that isn't caffeine or have tons of sugary substances in it.

the boys are 5 months. sometimes they let me sleep through the night but usually around 4 am they start waking up for a bottle or diaper change, and wake up for the day around 7 30 or 8.

i do know i'm anemic so i'm careful with that. i'm on an iron supplement and have been for quiet some time. and all my gp said was that it's normal to be tired. she didn't do any tests, look into it...nothing. but i'm just so sick of being so tired all the time. a friend suggested i start drinking more coffee (i do usually have a cup here and there....not everyday. i usually drink green tea or regular tea in the mornings) or start drinking energy drinks.  i don't want to do that. sure i'll have a red bull occasionally (usually with my jager if the hubby and i go out for date nights and stop for a drink or two at a bar which is maybe once a month or every other month) but not everyday. i know red bulls are all natural ingredients but i don't want to become dependent on them to keep me going throughout the day.

I'm not sure how old the twins are, but just thinking of caring for twin infants makes me tired too!  I am sure that this is going to take some time to get your energy to return to your previous levels.  Are they letting you sleep through the night?  Your rest cycle at night will have a tremendous impact on this as well.

So far as diet is concerned, in order to keep energy levels at their peek throughout the day, perhaps eating 5-6 smaller meals spaced out throughout the day instead of 2-3 larger ones.  Keeping fuel flowing through your tank more frequently might assist with these energy levels as well.

I would like to suggest a visit to your physician as well describing your decreased energy levels.  They would be able to rule out medical causes, such as thyroid difficulties, low iron levels, etc., that might be contributing to this from the medical standpoint.
