Metamucil and weight loss (gain??)

I've been instructed by my doctor to take metamucil to help me with constapation problems BUT since I've been taking it I've only noticed weight gain and no change in bowel movements. I have seen some people on here say that they've lost weight due to metamucil. IS this true? Is the weight I am gaining due to water weight? How did anyone lose weight taking metamucil?? I would liek to know since I stuggle with my weight and I would be relieved to knwo if eventually taking metamucil would help me lose weight, but for now I am concerned. I gained 3lbs in 3 days!!!

I have had problems with my bowels and in Aug. a specialist insisted I take Metamucil every day even twice a day. I did and it got me going really well.  However, since Aug. I have gained 10 lbs. I don't eat much at all but since middle age I have been heavier.  I have been very careful what I eat. I have not changed my diet at all, in fact, have been eating less. For me the ONLY change has been the metamucil. I believe in some people it makes you gain weight.  I want to change to something else but have tried everything, fruit, high fibre diets, water, nothing works like metamucil but if I stay on it I will be as big as a house soon.

I'm going to start of by saying that I'm not a doctor I'm a 30yom working as a career firefighter Emt-p. We get very detailed annual physicals, blood work, EKG, urine analysis the works. Very fit very healthy says the doc every year. This year i had a different doc look at my chart. He said, "wow 100 push ups etc. your very strong and fit." I rebutlled with a smirk and a nold of the head. Then he stated," I'm very concerned with your bad cholesterol (ldl). I said cool so I'm good? He said no your boardline high and that my friend is the killer(ldl).  I thought to myself this guy is going to school me usually the other doc would nod his head make werid noises sign me off and say your good go fight more fires ya dummy. But not this one. I said so doc enlighten me. If keep my eatting habbits the same by the time I'm 40 going to have heart problems (cad) the killer and all sorts of other bad stuff. I was really worried. I ask what can i do? he said keep working out lower the fat and grease intake and take Metamucil. I ask why Metamucil. He said Metamucil clears all the fat you have in your arteries by cleansing your intestines but you have to drink coupious amount of water, water is key. Water makes you **** water flushes out your system water is the key to everything simple. Metamucil reverses plac build up in your coronary arteries but you need to drink lots of water. Everyone is concerned with this water weight banwagon. Its water your going to flush it out anyways along with all that bad stuff. Be concerned with fat lard grease weight thats harder to rid of. Drink water its good dont be afraid of it it is key to everything. So I've been doing as told and i feel great lost weight **** like a champ not tried no headaches and a healthier future free of coronary artery disease oh and the sex is longer and better. So lets sum up Metamucil is very good for you and lots of water is key. Oh and laxitives work by drawing water from your body into your intestines to make you ****. Water water water its the key.  Most doctors dont help you they keep you broken to keep you coming back. Wheres the money in fixing you. Just like mechanics people only that this is your body.

I have just started to take Metamucil.. and I think it's great~~ I think it depends on your body. Everyone is different. I think that its a good thing lowers cholesterol levels and cleans out your BIG COLON which assist in fighting diseases , skin problems and also weight issues.. I think this should make people loose weight not gaining.. if you are gaining I think there is something serious wrong.. this stuff is not FAT why should it make you gain weight.. also your body is made out of water 70- 80% you shouldnt be weighing yourself.. measure you body FAT and see if your clothes appear looser.. Anything that makes you go often is never a bad thing!! xoxo

That is really weird for the people that have gained weight from this. I've been taking it for about two months already. I go to the bathroom about three to four times a day. I use to have issues going to bathroom at least once a day. I watch what I eat and I work out almost every day. I also drink about 8 glasses of water. I think that if you work out and eat right you shouldn't be gaining weight. I believe in this product and it has helped me in my bowl movements alot. I do feel alot lighter......

Hope this helps

I had the opposite problem than many of you.  I had constant diarrhea.  Metamucil helped by solidifying my bowel movements.  I now have normal bowel activity.  I am also a diabetic.  I have noticed that it keeps my blood glucose from soaring as high as it once did. I didn't say it cured the diabetes, just made it more manageable. For that side effect I am very grateful.  As far as weight gain or loss?  I didn't notice any difference. It also helps with heartburn.  I think it must absorb the stomach acid.
