What dosage of Topamax causes weightloss?

I just started Topamax.  I'm on 25mg/day and will increase by 25mg/week until I reach 100mg.  I heard the weightloss effect depends on the dose.  So, what dose did everyone here have their success?  And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along?  I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking).  PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!  :)

Drink more water and the numbness should start to go away. I had it when I first started( I take it for migraines). with this medication you have to drink ALOT of water or you can get the numbness and dry mouth. Good luck with the medication.

maybe try taking it with water rather then Coke, the caffeine may be the issue of the headaches. what do you take Topamax for?

I take my in the morning when I get up rather then when I go to bed, my doctor as well never told me AM or PM but I have found it works better taking in the morning, when I first started taking the medication and had to work up to the 100mg im on I had to take on in the AM and one in the PM but once I got to 100mg once a day I opted for the AM. I too was up in the night when I had to take it then. hope it gets better for you.

I'm 26 and I have been on the Generic version of Topamax for a year and have lost close to 65 or 70 pounds in that year.(a lot of the weight loss came when I separated from my husband and got really depressed from that) I am taking it for Migraines, I would get them 2 and 3 times a week before starting the medication now I get maybe 1 or 2 a month. the weight loss is defiantly an upside for me as I had had 2 of my children 18months apart from one another and have had a very hard time getting all the weight off in the 6 years they have been born, I have tried diets, changing everything I eat, cutting out all pop and only drinking water, working out but nothing helped get the pounds off so doctor said this medication would help with the migraines and the weight. I started out on 25mg 2 times a day and worked up to 100mg witch is what I am on now. with in the 1st month I was losing weight I only had a little tingles in my feet and hands for the first week but I uped my water intake and it went away. I didn't start to get foggy headed until recently id say with in the last 3 months. my biggest problem with the medication is that my hair is falling out in big amounts I had REALLY thick hair and now it is really thin- it comes out in big clumps when I am in the shower and when I brush it out, I cant run my fingers threw my hair anymore (something I have done since I was a kid) because hair always comes out with it. I really don't want to stop taking the medication as it helps SO much for the pain in my head but I am so scared if I continue I could loss all my hair. I have read about a lot of people stopping it and all their weight and then some coming back and I don't want that either. does anyone know if it is jus the generic version of the Topamax that makes your hair fall out or is it the name brand as well? I have slowly stopped taking the generic Topamax for a week now and have had 2 migraines and the pain in my back from dislocated disk is back, I never really knew it was helping with that pain until I stopped taking it.

I have been taking 100 mg. Topamax for years and haven't lost a lb.  I also wake up every morning with a headache.  I take either a Goody powder or 2 Bayer Aspirin and drink some Coke, then go back to bed because it is usually very early (3-5 am).  I take it for other reasons, but I should still get the same benefits shouldn't I?

That is why my doc put me on Topamax yesterday--to prevent the emotional eating (periodic bulimic tendencies). I am hoping it works, though she put me on a super low dose. It's taking everything in my power not to take more than prescribed, but I will listen to her direction and go with it.
Thanks for your input.
