info on diet meds causing seizures?

kk2
Does anyone have any information about phentermine or any other diet medication possibly causing seizures in women? I recently read something about it on this site.

Hi I just wanted to say I took phentermine 37.5 prescribed by my doctor. Yes I exercised unless I had a busy day. At first I felt great but with time apparently my body was feeling it. I have never had any health issues. Not even being over weight. But about 4 months in I had a grand mal seizure where I actually died for a few mins not fainted but died and came back. First time ever I had a seizure in my life. I have a busy life as we all do with our kids and spouse and everyday life. Did I mention one of my kids is autistic? Well I do. That all being said. Weight loss meds are not worth you risking your life! Giving yourself another thing to worry about and deal with the rest of your life. Thinking if you will live til old or have another seizure. I had my license suspended for a few months until DMV sees I'm doing ok on my seizure medicine because now they consider us dangerous to ourself or others because we can get it anytime again. (The seizure) Not worth it!

Hi There!

I never heard another thing about it accept through the email that was being circulated.  My father in law sent it because it was in a lot of children's medicines.  If you really want my imput about using weight loss drugs it's this.  I went through a withdrawel from using weight loss meds.  Yes they work and some don't but putting a chemical into your body to help speed things up puts your body under sever stress.  I'm not a person that is all organic and doesn't use anything.  But I have seen it with myself and am now being a lot smarter.  I don't trust drug companies anymore.  They sell a lot of products that screw us up.  I am now using a site called "sparkpeople" to help me lose weight.  I've lost 5 pounds in 4 weeks just following they're way.  All natural doing it myself!  Please check out this site and stay away from the drugs.

Thanks

I really appreciate your opinion and am weighing all the pros and cons, struggling with that decision, but once again, just for clarity, will you please tell me the name of the drug that you are talking about? What drug or ingredient is it that is in a lot of children's medicines? Have any been recalled?

In some other research that I have done I read that some drugs containing ephedra caused seizures in some studies so I figured it was probably that. I took dexatrim and some others many years ago but my seizures didn't start until years later. Anyway, thanks for your help.

thanks so much bobbyboy for your input.

A few weeks ago someone with the nickname "diggers" said she read a drug was being taken off the market because it had caused seizures in women. I assume it wasn't phentermine or we would have heard more about it since so many people take it. But they were talking about phentermine on that thread and I just wasn't sure if that was what she meant or not. Diggers, are you out there? I have had some seizures and doctors have been unable to find out why. I certainly don't want to add another risk factor in there! Thank you!
