Biggest Loser

Continuing the Live Chat discussion that I started about the Biggest Loser but never got to finish since I needed to spend time with hubby--- I read your responses to it and that's actually a great point about it being sad that people have to go home.

What happened with the first episode of Biggest Loser? They sent NINE people home on the first night (split up 9 teams). The reason behind it being that they want people to know they CAN DO THIS at home, without that bootcamp atmosphere. Isn't that amazing? I can't wait to see their results. The people sent home get a personal trainer and a membership to their local 24Hour Fitness, I believe. Not sure if these nine people will be getting that, though.

Anyway, watched the show. These are the biggest contestants they've ever had. This show really moves me because 1). the transformations are incredible and 2). these people NEED to lose serious weight (we're talking close to 400lb people). Hubby didn't want to watch but ended up being really intrigued by the show. I think this is going to be THE season to watch if you don't watch it. I'm a personal fan of their techniques and attitudes (I LOVE Jillian's in-your-face-no-BS attitude!).

Okay, that's my spiel! What are your thoughts? It is the basis for my Weight Loss Challenge that hubby and I created, which Renae has asked me to share. Will share on another post, though, so it's easy to find.

Very true, Ranae! My husband made the comment, "They basically workout all day, everyday and we don't have that ability." I'm still drawn to the show but their website is confusing. I prefer this group much better!

While I truly like to see the outcomes and find that it motivates people to see that it can be done, I also find there are many who are not realizing the amount of exercise and hard work that goes into the weekly weight loss of the participants.  In that way, many I have worked with become demotivated when they join in a normal challenge and lose 1/2 - 2 lbs a week or even stay static for a week or two.

So .. I love that it's front and center, prime time TV and that overall it seems that many viewers are forming different and more compassionate feelings towards those of us struggling with weight issues.  It also encourages us all to change and that WE CAN!

Do hope everyone realizes that you would have to follow the same diet and the same routines .. the same amount of time dedicated to very tough workouts .. to get the same results in the same time.  Otherwise, just implement all the changes, food habits and workouts, in a more conservative manner and obtain more conservative yet very positive results!

JoyRenee ~ Thank you for joining in the Live Chat last night and for this very thought provoking post.  Am certainly anxious to hear the views of our other teammates/community members.
