On a diet

I've been on a diet for the past week and I have barely lost more than a pound or two. I have been consuming about half of what I usually eat and have cut out fatty foods, I also get exercise every day now. Is it true that most people only start losing much weight after the two or three weeks of dieting?

What am I doing wrong?

Welcome.  WenDDarling gave you some great suggestions. A loss of 1-2 pounds/week is the healthiest way to lose weight, so you are doing great.  I might add, that it may be helpful if your start a food journal to keep track of what you eat so you can pick out habits that might need to be changed.  There are several websites on which you can keep a food journal or even just start a journal here on MedHelp; I also understand that MedHelp is coming out with a food journal in the near future...

Make sure you get plenty of exercise - it will not only help burn calories, but it will help give you more energy.

Good luck and keep posting.

1-2lbs a week is a great average when trying to lose weight! Its the healthiest pace... keep in mind the faster you lose weight the faster you will gain it back if you give up or just stop your activity and or dieting. Keep up the good work... make sure to consume atleat 1800 calories a day... you don't want your body to  store fat becasue it thinks it wont get another meal. Eat small meals every 2-3 hours and keep up the good work with excersizing but make sure to give your body a day of rest as to let your muscles heal. If you ever want to talk diet... im here! :) Good luck and keep your head up!
