Sunday Weigh In - August 14, 2022

Good morning, everyone.  I hope you've all got a good day in process.   We were lucky enough to get some rain last night (0.69") - not a lot, but when you need it, every little bit helps.   I'm hoping that my plants will start getting green again, since many of them are turning brown from being too dry.

It's been a pretty quiet week, so I've had time to get in plenty of calligraphy practice, along with a few other things.  We had our woodworking meeting on Tuesday and there was a guy who does woodburning (pyrography) on paper.  I've considered that many times, but was always afraid I'd burn start the paper on fire... Well, since he does it, I figured I had to try it - and it worked!!  There's definitely a trick to it and you do have to be very careful, so it's quite challenging, but it is fun!!   I'm also working on making a book, so we'll see how that works out.

I'm still working on my daily planks.  I'm now able to hold the plank for a full minute, though by the time that minute is up, my arms are really tired and I'm ready for it to be over.  I can't really tell a difference in my tummy - it might seem a bit more solid, but who knows?  It does take time to be able to see that type of change and even if it doesn't do much to get rid of the tummy, it's a good core exercise.

Yesterday, we went on a trek to a local equestrian center - it's a new thing, recently built and is billed at the largest equestrian center in the US.   It's huge, so of course, we ended up doing a LOT of walking.  I guess you can rent golf carts, but we didn't realize how much walking would be involve.  I need the walking, anyway, so it turned out well.

We also found a new place to eat, which was a good experience.  I stuck with the salad bar and chicken, so I don't think I overdid on the calories.   I've developed (or redeveloped) a taste for macaroni and cheese, so that's not helping with calorie intake.  I need to go back to my nightly egg/muffin breakfast sandwich.  :-)

I haven't weighed this morning, but yesterday, I was still where I was last week.  Of course, I'd love to be losing, but at least I'm not gaining.   I'll take that as a plus.

So that's where I am this week.  Today's project will be working on the monthly newsletter for our woodworking club, so it will mean I'll spend most of the day doing "sit down" work, but the rest of the week will bring plenty of exercise, with mowing and other yard work.

How was your week?  I hope it was a good one and you accomplished whatever goal(s) you set for yourself.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

Though this has been a week of accomplishing things at my mother's house, with not a lot more to do before we put it on the market, I obviously wasn't as frenetic as previously because I've gained one pound. That takes me out of the 5-lb. bracket that I consider to be the range where I've 'met my goal weight.' This means it's time to stop eating salty and sweet stuff! We did have a lot of snack food around this last week, I need to do a better job shopping.

In the world of getting my mom's house empty, we're down to her wedding gown, a dress she wore as a bridesmaid for her sister's wedding, and an attractive (Arts & Crafts style), perfectly sound piano. No one on Craigslist wants the piano for free, no charity will take it, including those whose specialty is giving free pianos to piano students. Apparently there are simply lots more pianos than demand. We're in contact with the school system about donating it, but the coordinator can't say yes or no until the teachers come back from summer break to say whether they might want one. The kind of wood used for some pianos is said to be desirable for making guitars, but it does seem like a shame to break apart a piano just because we can't keep it. (If we go another month and can't find a taker, I'll doubtless feel differently. Then I'd have to find out if there are any guitar makers in our town.) Between the oil tank, gigantic dysfunctional antique freezer and the piano, my mom's house has been surprisingly hard to empty!

This week is going to be hot, and we have some exterior work to do on the house (peeling paint) and in the yard. I began pruning an overgrown ornamental tree and filled the compost bin immediately, there was just so much to take out. It's supposed to be pruned in the Japanese way, with views through the branches, and maybe it was, 15 years ago. But now it just looks like a big green lump in the middle of the yard, and blocks the view of the front porch and front door. Perhaps doing this upcoming hard work in the sun will help with this week's weight loss. (That, and not having so many snacks in the house.)

Have a great week!
