Ugh. Help

I am a Lupus patient who recently treated with Prednisone on top of being on a medication that is commonly associated with weight gain. One causes both causes hunger and the Prednisone causes fluid retention and changes the way insulin is used and the adrenal glands function. I'm off of it now but gained 20 pounds in less than two weeks.  I have a 50 degree cervical spine curve, a 28 degree thoracic curve and an additional lumbar curve.  Basically, the weight gain is causing me back problems now and walking is difficult due to lumbar/nerve compression.  I am able to do floor excersizes and but  not the kind of high energy aerobics that I want to do to burn a lot of calories so I am wanting to take an aggressive dietary approach to get some of if not all of this recently gained 20 pounds off so that I can resume my aerobic exersises. I have an additional 30 to lose after that at minimum.    What is the minimum calorie intake one can have a day and for how long?  Also, do you have any apps you recommend that helps you stay on track of your nutrition / water intake etc?

I'd do a mostly vegan diet.  You can eat a lot of food when its fruits and vegetables.  Avoid dairy and of course, sugar and processed flour.

Making dietary changes will help reduce  inflammation and help you feel better, plus lose weight.

If you eat too much fruit, the sugar can contribute to weight gain, but usually only if insulin issues are present.  Have your insulin levels gone back to normal, now that you're off the Pred?  Stick mostly with veggies.

While it's necessary for some people to eliminate dairy and meat from their diet, due to health issues, it's important to keep in mind that, both, dairy and meat provide a large share of the protein we eat each day, as well as contain high levels of Vitamin B12, which is essential for energy and nerve function, plus dairy provides the majority of our calcium.  If you're not allergic or intolerant to lactose, I'd continue with dairy, including milk, cheeses, yogurt.

The main things you should give up are processed foods that contain white flour, sugar, white rice, etc.

Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated.

Does the glucose in fruit contribute to the weight gain associated with sugar?
