Intermittent fasting can be done for weight loss and it does work. Many who do the fasting pick a "window" throughout the day (say from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm) and that's when they do their eating. Check out Dr Mercola; he's a great fan of intermittent fasting and has several articles on how to do it safely.
You lose weight yes but you'll gain it back whren you start eating again. If its for cleaseing to rid the body of toxin do under dr supervision . But mostly for cleasing. Not weight loss.

I tried intermitent Fasting which worked for me. What I can't say is the long term effect. According to researches I did on the net, it is suppose to help with insulin sensitivity and maintaining sugar level. It really helped me to curl my food addiction. All the best.
It is better to eat lots of small meals than to fast. Fasting will slow down you metabolism where as eating small amounts often will keep it working. So I agree religious reasons fine but for losing weight a very temporary fix that could cause gain later when you try eating normal again. But it also depends how long and how often when it comes to negative effects.
It depends on how long you plan to fast for... The time between eating your evening dinner and morning breakfast is considered a fast. Some people think that fasting until noon or even mid afternoon (up to 16-18 hrs) is okay. Personally, I think that's too long and not good for you. Besides, who wants to go around hungry all the time?
I believe its best to fast when it is for a religious purpose.. Otherwise it should not be done for it is dangerous and can cause horrendous affects.
