I whole grainly, excuse me, heartedly, agree with twehner5 and Barb135. I never buy white grains (bread or rice or flour), and avoid them as much as I can when dining out.
The extra fiber in whole grain alternatives can help you feel full and satisfied along with all of the other benefits.
I'm not a carb counter, but I do think whole grains over white/bleached are a good way to go for weight control and overall health.
I agree whole heartedly with twehner5. Any time you can eat whole grains over "enriched", you are doing something good for your body.
BIG difference - as long as the first ingredient in your "wheat" bread does NOT say "enriched" anything !!! You are wasting your money if it is enriched "wheat" flour.
To answer your question, the difference between the two breads is how your blood sugar reacts. Whole wheat bread will NOT cause a spike in your blood sugar. White bread is like eating a piece of cake. It is NOT good for you. This is probably one of the biggest gifts you can give to your family - start them young on nothing except whole wheat bread. They will never know the difference, but the fiber in the whole wheat bread is so much healthier for you. AND, there is SO MUCH MORE flavor in whole wheat bread!
GOOD FOR YOU! Small changes like that, over time, really make a difference. You didn't have to give up bread - you chose a MUCH healthier bread ! GOOD FOR YOU !!!
