MASTER CLEANSE

I was thinking about doing the Master Cleanse diet this weekend and I wanted to know everyone's  thoughts on it or anyone who has ever done it before?  I plan on doing it every weekend for the a month and eating light foods during the week.  I already drink lots of water and I plan incorporating some cardio excersize with it too.  How do you guys think of that?

Thank you for clearing that up for me.  I always thought that water cleaned your bowels as well as your kidneys.  I did not take the Master Cleanse but I have been eating more hearty grains and less junk.  Thank you Barb.

Drinking water is good to help stem the appetite - makes you feel fuller and of course keeps you hydrated; however, I read an article not long ago that said drinking water to help with bowel activity is counter productive because water is sent to the kidneys before it ever reaches the large intestine, which is where the "passing along" takes place.

There are toxins in our bodies; however, we are built in such a way as to eliminate the majority of those toxins and related waste.  Unless you are routinely exposed to toxic substances, your body should be getting rid of them.

For the most part, I would agree that a cleanse would not harm you; however, there are always those who should not engage in certain protocols, due to health issues.

I just wanted to know if it was a healthy way to detox without taking medicines that I have never heard of.  I go to the bathroom regularly and I drink at least 164  ounces of water a day.  I am not thirsty all the time, I just sometimes drink water to keep from giving in to my sweet tooth.  I know that we have extra waste in out bodies and I havent had a laxative in  at ten years.  It was not so much about me losing weight it was more about helping the "passage along". I really appreciate the both of you giving me your thoughts on this matter.

As Barb135 pointed out, most of the time cleansers are not necessary.

On the other hand there are no contraindications, and there is some evidence that ocasional use of the protocol has some benefits.

Why do you feel that you need this cleanse?  Most of the time, cleanses are not necessary, since your body is built to filter out toxins on its own.

We recommend a healthy diet and moderate exercise as being the safest way to lose weight.  Anything "drastic" and you are likely to gain back everything you lose (often plus some), as soon as you stop.
