Development

Around the 8th week the baby starts producing urine. I was just wondering where does it go??. Sorry if people think this is a dumb question.

It goes in the amniotic sac

The amniotic fluid is comprised of lots of things, and urine is a major component, believe it or not.  That's why if there is a decreased amount of amniotic fluid, they often look at the baby's kidneys and bladder to be sure there are no problems there.

A baby who is under stress or chronically hypoxic will also often have decreased amniotic fluid, b/c the baby shunts blood flow from the kidneys to other vital organs, and with the decreased blood flow to the kidneys comes decreased urine output.
