Provera/complex hyperplasia

Hello! I am new to the forums and message boards but I really need to find someone who has been prescribed Provera.

A little history...a year ago last February I started to pass blood clots the size of quarter up to the size of fists.  It lasted approx. 12 hours.  Nothing except spotting for the next couple of months until August of this year it happened again, and again in September.  I went to the doctor middle of September she wanted to do a pap and biospy. I agreed came back in October had both test done.  Pap came back fine but the biospy shown Simple Hyperplasia which she wanted to compare to a prior biospy of Sept of 2004.  To my knowledge after the comparison it shown that my hyperplasia was complex not simple so I have been prescriped provera 10 mg for 10 days.  She said it was going to be like a D&C but with provera not a surgery.  If anyone has taken provera let me know if you experienced any symptoms.

Thanks!

I know this is an old forum but felt the need to put my story here for anyone who may stumble across it this.  I hope to save someone from going through what I went through.  I went to my gynecologist for abnormal bleeding.  I had a biopsy and was diagnosed with simple hyperplasia and  was prescribed Provera 10 mg for three  weeks.   The entire three weeks I had constant spotting.  A day after completing the course of treatment the bleeding increased and the second day I was hemorrhaging huge blood clots.  I went to the emergency room  because it looked and felt as though I was having a miscarriage.  Horrendous pain and clots the size an adult fist. I needed morphine to deal with the pain.   I can not comprehend that anyone would chose this option over a D&C that is done in the proper environment.  I wonder if the doctors that prescribe this medication have ever experienced it themselves.  Highly unlikely.  Save yourself from a traumatizing experience that will take you a long time to heal from physically and emotionally.  If I save one person from experiencing what I experienced I am grateful to have helped.

Nevertakeprovera - What an awful experience! I am sorry this happened to you! I have never taken Provera so cannot comment from a personal standpoint. However, your body's extreme reaction is not typical. Unfortunately, we can never predict how a medication is going to affect us.

What type of problems did you have?  I have complex hyperplasia with normal cells.  My doctor is concerned because of my lining is so thick.  I have no insurance so she feels this will help shed my lining.  I have read research online that states that they try a hormone but most outcomes lead to hysterectomy.

Thanks.

Thanks for responding.  Did you take 10mg or 5mg? I have seen a lot message boards were people were prescribed 5mgs for 7 days.   I am suppose to take 10 mgs for 10 days. I have never had a normal cycle.  I went approx. 6 years without having any period.  This maybe stupid but was does AF mean?

Thanks.

I was also prescribed provera...I didnt experience any side effects really.  About four days after my last pill was when I started AF, it was a little more heavy than my normal AF.  I also had very bad cramps.  But other than that provera did what it was suppose to do. Good Luck!
