WOMANS HEALTH

IS DOUCHING REALLY SAFE? I HEARD THAT YOU CAN GET THAT TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME FROM IT.

Never say never. There may be times when this works for you, but as a rule, I would avoid unnatural flushings for the most part. I wonder about the TSS (toxic shock syndrome) thing, as I did when this story came out about tampons. My guess is that some cases occurred when ladies left them in too long or forgot about them. Only other thing I could imagine that would cause invasive infection from douching the vagina might be intrusion through the mucous plug into the cervix (this would take some pressure, I'd guess).

Probably TMI for your simple query, Deb, but I have been thinking about this issue, and wanted to add my "tuppence". Bottom line from me is use sparingly, and gently. Watch diet and use more water than chemicals for hygien. Hope this help to answer what you wanted to know, and have a wonderful weekend, dear.

I second that, tinkerbell1124 and would only add that the body can do some remarkable things including self-repairs if you take care of her!!

Well I don't know IF you can get that from it. But I've been told by EVERY DR I've ever seen that it ISN'T good for you. You're body has it's own way of cleaning itself. You can actually get BV from it I guess.

I've had doctors say that it isn't necessary as Clysta said.  Never heard about getting tss through douching...

I've not heard of it causing TSS, but it isn't recommended or even necessary. The vagina cleans itself naturally, and douching can cause a few other problems such as PID and infections due to the chemical change.
