5 month long yeast infection??

Around the middle of Feb. I began to have vaginal irritation & i thought it was going to be another yeast infection(i have at least 3-4 a year). However this was different. It started out with itching & then what felt like small tears & cracks around the vaginal area(mainly labia majora) and i also felt the cracks in my anal area...bowel movements have since been painful and bleeding occurs. I saw several doctors who have treated me for a skin irritation, yeast infection, fungal infection....i start to get better but only for about 2 weeks and the irritation and tears come back. Around May the symptoms came back but this time with small red bumps. it looked as if i had a rash and my vaginal area was raw. the doctor i saw for that tested me for herpes, syphillis, chlamydia, ghonnorhea, & a yeast infection & even diabetes. the only thing she saw was mild yeast. so i got treated for a yeast infection. Needless to say that was back in may & i have now been to one more doctor. this doc told me to treat myself after every period with monistat and he gave me a Diflucan Pill. The symtpoms did not go away after a week of seeing him so he prescribed more diflucan. within the last two weeks i have taken 3 diflucan pills and have done 2 OTC 1Day Treatmens. Tonight i will actually be finishing a 3Day Treatment. This is just ridiculous and it IS runining my life. i have not had sex with my boyfriend in 5 months.thank god he is so loving and patient.  Currently there is no irritation on the outer labia but there is right under the clitoris and in & around the vaginal opening. Please Help!

It is important to go and get a follow up STD check up. Some don't show up right away. If you find out which it is, then you can be treated. Even Herpes doesn't always show up the first time you are tested. For kit to go and come back without treatment it sounds like Herpes. Not trying to scare you but Herpes has outbreaks that usually comes and goes when you are stressed out. The sooner you know what is wrong, the better you will feel.

I read your entry and it sounds just like me. I got this yeast infection, or at least i think it is, in july and it is now november. I know it started as a urinary tract infection because I was diagnosed with that. Well the burning when i pee thing went away and thats when the really bad itching started. I have two bumps on the outer labia that are hard... almost like a spider bite gets... the itching is the worst there. I bleed from thsoe spots, and I get the weird discharge too. I tried the unsweetened cranberry juice for two weeks... eww. I tried Miconozole 7 day treatment 3 times, It hurts when My bf and i try to have sex.
I know it's not an STD because My bf and I have been having sex for ten months, and he has nothing and since my itch came, he still has nothing. I don't have an STD, but I wanna know why this thing isn't going away. Ive had Yeast before, but never like this and never this long.
I am also a type 2 diabetic, and I don't know if that would have anything to do with the length of time. But I have no health insurance so I have no doctor to go to... Help me out if you get any answers! I feel your pain.

Yogurt does work, the active culters can go through your blood streem and reach anywhere there are blood vesels.. Also, Acidopholis (good bateria vitamin) is really good for getting the good bateria back in order, in your digestive system and your vagina..

Well I have been trying to find out things online why I have had a 6 month off and on yeast infection.. or so that's what I think it is. I started to take an antibiotic in June for my minor ear infection, which was affecting my glands and my tooth. Anyway, my doctor never told me I could get a yeast infection from taking an antibiotic.. but sure enough a few days later, I started feeling burning and itching on the "outside". I thought nothing of it and after a few days the symptoms persisted and I went online to see what it was. When I found out I asked my mom to buy me Monistat.. the 7 day one. After 7 days of uncomfortable sleeping, It didn't go away. Since then I have had 2 more Monistat treatments, vulvar cream, yogurt (eating and applying) and I have no insurance so I can't go to the doctor to see what's wrong. What is something that really works and gets rid of it for good? I'm only 16 years old and I feel like it is ruining my everyday lifestyle..

The cream that has give me the most relief for the irritation around the anus is called Dermarest.  It reduces the itching, redness and irritation that otherwise keeps me up at night.  It never completely heals though.

I have the tiny tears in the skin at the base of the labia and also around the anus.  I am pretty confident that this is related to low hormone levels coupled with the friction of sex and the stretching accompanying hard BMs.  I have not been tested yet for fungus, yeast, or bacteria but have an apt with my doctor next week.  My symptoms started with the labia in January and then included the anal by June.  I have used lots of creams but the dermatology one has given me the most relief.  I don't have it with me today so I will try to post the name tomorrow.

My twin also has the anal tears and her doctor gave her suppositories.  I will ask her for the name and how they are working for her and post tomorrow.  We are 47 and have both had full hysterectomies

We are so lucky. :|

Chronic yeast infections are very common now. Mostly due to the overuse of otc yeast treatments, especially the 1 or 3 day treatments. Many doctors/gyns are not up on the 'latest info/treatments' when it comes to these new bugs.   Your best bet for a lasting treatment is to search out a woman's clinic or research facility near you that deals only in woman's problems of this sort. You need informed treatment, not guess work.

Yogurt is a myth.  The bacteria you eat can not travel from your digestive track to / nor survive in your vagina. They are of a different genetic makeup and do not have the mechanisms for attachment to the vaginal wall that your own natural flora do. This goes for the probiotic supplements.

From what I have learned over the past year and a half, that these drug resistant strains do not have all of the same symptoms as your 'run of the mill' yeast infection. There seems to be more pain and less itch associated with them. The over prescribed/used meds no longer work.

Diets high in sugar/alcohol and various other junk foods can alter your chemistry enough to bring on symptoms.

Most importantly, don't give up. Speak up. Doctors need to stop looking at us like we are crazy. They are not the one trying to sit on a volcano.

Look into using GSE (grapefruit seed extract) and probiotics. Probiotics contain the same type of cultures you get in yogurt, but it is a much higher amount and therefore, more effctive. You can buy both of these things at the healthfood store and they have a really good track record.  You also need to cut out all refined sugar and white flour b/c these foods actually feed the fungus.  If you eat yogurt it has to be plain yogurt.  Flavored yogurts are full of sugar and so are pretty much counterproductive.  There is also something called Gentian Violet, which is supposed to be excellent at treating fungal infections.  I do not know much about this though, so you should do some research on it.  You may also try drinking UNSWEETENED cranberry juice.  It is not likely to get rid of the infection, but the acidity may help to balance out the bacteria in your vagina.  Best of luck to you.  I hope something helps!

I definitely think you should speak to your doctor again, or go to a new doctor.  Taking 3 diflucan pills in that short amount of time is not good.  I believe diflucan if taken too much cause liver problems.  The creams you can use as much as your heart desires but be careful with diflucan.

It could be a drug-resistant strain of yeast, candida glabrata. First, I'd go back to your doctor and ask him/her to culture your discharge. Then, I'd make an appt with a dermatologist as well, because skin issues are their specialty.

Unfortunately, it's been shown that yogurt and acidophilus actually do nothing for yeast infections, but yogurt is tasty anyway :-)
