7 months, still no period

I have always had irregular periods, maybe 2-3 months between periods at the most. But now I have not had a period in 7 months! I take a pregnancy test every month to be sure, but they are all negative. I only have safe sex with one person.

I went to my doctor about this a few years ago and she said it was normal, but this is getting extreme. I am worried that I will never be able to get pregnant (not trying yet) or that I have gained too much weight to have a period. Can this happen?

I do not have health insurance so cannot go to the doctor and am terrified of going to the free clinic because of a bad experience there. Does anyone else have this problem? What is the cause?
Thanks for any advice...

I haven't had a period in 7 months. I have taken a home pregnancy test that came out negative, but lately every one keeps saying that I look pregnant. Is it possible to be pregnant and not know it?

Wow.... I just looked this up online and I had no idea! I have all of these symptoms. Excess facial hair, steady weight gain around the belly (even though I am eating less and less in the last four months), no period, depression (I am on prozac) etc. Thanks for this tip. I talked to my mom about it and I think she will help me pay for a doctor visit.

I have had this, too.  I have gone 9 months without a period.  If you have gained a lot of weight lately, as I did--about 80 pounds in three months, then you might have PCOS.  Either way, it means that your hormones are mixed up, and you aren't ovulating like you are supposed to.  I have been on bcp, provera, and prometrium (forms of progestrone) to make me have a fake period.  I was also given metformin to help with my insulin resistance, which is part of the weight gain and PCOS.  I don't think the lack of periods is harmful, unless you are trying to get pregnant.  I acutally feel better just going without one, than taking the meds. to have one.  A doctor would probably tell you to change your diet, exercise, and try to lose weight.  If you do decide you want to get pregnant, they will probably give you the progestrone and metformin, and maybe clomid to get you ovulating.  I'd say the chances of you gettting pregnant right now are slim, but it is wise to still be careful.  And sometimes the problem will fix itself.  Try vitimans.  I just had my first period on my own in three years (I am 26) after 6 months without one.   It was painful, but it lasted about 8 days and then back to normal.  Much better than periods with progestrone, which are very heavy, painful, and last at least 10 days.   You should so some research online and see if the symptoms match.
