Allergic to Metronidazole?

I was prescribed metronidazole for BV. I took it the full seven days as prescribed, but two days after finishing my last dose I developed Hives. I never had anything the whole week of taking the medicine except a headache and little nausea. Could it possibly be a allergic reation two days after finishing the metronidazole?

I am experiencing the same thing.  I was prescribed Metronidazole 500mg, 2X a day, by my OBGYN for BV.  I took all but 3 pills.  The day after I stopped I broke out in hives that were red, firey and itchy.  It has been a full 9 days since I stopped and I am still experiencing them.  I have just been taking Benadryl and the only thing it does is stops the itching.  I went to the emergency room and the Dr. there really was no help at all.  She just prescribed Hydroxyzine HCl but I am afraid to try any new medicine.  Please give me some suggestions.  Tomorrow I will go to my Primary Care Physician to hopefully get some answers and relief.  Thanks for your input!

I took metronidazole on 6/6/11 for BV as well. On 6/16/11, 5 days after the last pill, I broke out in the worst case of hives I have ever had.  All around my hair line, into my scalp, along my hip and pelvic bones, on my jaw line and neck - -burning, painful and firey.  The doctors tried to get to the bottom of it, but eventually they sent me on my way and I never did determine the source of the problem.  I have not had BV since, however, earlier this month I got another case and on 2/5/14 I was put on metronidazole again. The 7 day course ended on 2/12/14 and exactly 5 days later, I broke out in that same case of hives. My scalp, neck, jaw line, and hip bones are covered in painful hives.  I am back on a prednisone and cross my fingers it will help faster than last time which took 4 days to clear.
The sad thing is that it is a holiday today and I would have to go to the ER to get assistance, so I tried to talk with a pharmacist who suggested it was impossible for me to have this kind of a reaction to this medication. Apparently, it isn't because I haven't been on that med since 2011, or have I had hives, so the correlation at present is +1.0. Go figure!
