BV Infection?

Hello, I Just have a few questions about BV. First off im 21 and sexualy active with my bf of 6 yrs, we have sex almost everyday or every other day.. if not he gets very frustrated with me,I on the other hand dont really mind if i get sex everyday but i do mind his frustration. I have been getting these infections usually after my period but its usually when i have sex right after my period. I first thought it was the OB Tampons i was using without the applicator but i switched to tampax with the plastic applicator and i still get them . I started getting them when i was young maybe around 16, when i first started getting these infections i would go get tested and the first time it was BV infection and i was prescribed some antibiotic and it went away and it seems to come back every month or so the second time it was a yeast infection and the third time it was BV again so it is either one or the other or it is just one. I've been precribed diflucan and i've taken all of the creams and antibiotics but it still comes back. My symptoms are whiteish yellowish discharge and after i have the infection for a few days the discharge is like a yellowish pink. the inside of my vagina is very itchy and it seems that the discharge is causing redness swollen and itchyness only where the discharge is and i keep whiping it away with a baby whipe which helps for about 5 minutes untill more discharge comes. this is really stressfull on both me and my bf and i dont know what to do anymore is there somethin wrong with me?
If BV is not teated will i problems with trying to conceive when ready?

I too am a victim of chronic BV.  It is the most frustrating thing that I have ever encountered.  I am also frustrated with the doctors that seem to share conflicting information.  Some say that is sexually transmitted, while others say that it is not.  All I know is that more likely than not I have an infection at any given time.  I am currently sexually active, but when I was not sexually active I was still plagued with this nuisance.  Amoung others, I have tried Flagyl and metrogel.  You name it, I've tried.  I hate to keep bothering the doctor, but maybe if he took the time to assess my case based on my medical history, we could get to the root of this problem.  Frankly, it's embarrassing to transmit an odor during sexual intercourse.  Whether it is your husband or your boyfriend, they are wondering in the back of their minds, "What the hell is wrong with you!"  I have been tested for everything under the sun including HIV.  Everything comes back negative. Is there anybody out there that can give me some advice that I have not heard or tried before?  I'm tired of buying pantiliners.

I also have re-accuring Bv infections - i think- I also have had the same BF for 5 years.  We are monogamous.  I have been tested for STD's -so has he- IT ALL STARTED- one night we were drinking a lot- we were having sex and my BF put his finger in my butt- then the idiot put his finger in my vagina- ever since then I've had this horrible infection.  First i had no insurance so I went to this clinic that was supposed to be cheap-they gave me a shot in the butt of CIPRO- and also a metrogel cream to insert- it went away for about 3 months- but i have several spouts where it feels like its back for like a month.I thought it was UTI but urine cultures are negative too.
I have great insurence now- and I went to a real Dr.- this Dr tested me 1 year later- and i still had bacteria in my vagina
it burns to pee and just can't have sex or get aroused anymore
she gave me flagyl and cipro again-it did nothing-not even for a few days- now when i call that Dr. office i can't get the Dr. on the phone - she won't return my calls- im desperate and my pus*y's on fire.  I took monistat last night- hoping it was just yeast from the second round of antibiotics- IT HURTS WORSE- but the Dr. won't call me back- So I made a new appt. with a new Dr. But this is back to square 1 again. With the same tests.
My other Dr. also started me on Yasmin Birth Control at the same time of the falgyl and Cipro. What should I do. I am in my 20's and my BF will leave me if I can't have sex.  I couldn't even do it on Valentine's Day.  He is being patient- but how long can I expect him to wait for me?????????HELP ME?

I agree totally with monkeyflower.  You definitely don't need to douche, ever.  That is the first thing you will read if you google BV's.  There is a natural pH level in the vagina, and douching disrupts this.  Also, the acidophilus thing...definitely doesn't work.  That is a myth that surround the yeast infection area--don't try that.  Also, be careful if you take baths with scented soaps/bubble bath.  All of those things can disrupt the pH of the vagina.
You should seek another opinion if you have continued infections.  Good luck--MH

Good luck Hun!!! If this does not work, ask your Dr. about a Boric Acid Vaginal Suppository. It sounds awful I know...but it's not.

Hello again!

Yes I also heard that douching is not good to do either..I've also tried diflucan, Flagyl, clindamycin, metrogel and antibiotics.. the Antibiotics was the only thing that worked but it just came back again.. usually after the first time i have sex after my period.. it usually lasts about 5 - 6 days and now its gone.. Im going to try to eat more yougert and my bf says he dosent have a problem with not ejaculating inside me
so were going to give that a try first.. If that dosent help.. I've never tried the acid whatever its called but maybe i'll try it out if this dosent work ;) thanks for the suggestions.

Patty.

Acidophilus has actually been shown to be ineffective against infections, so it's probably pointless to go that route. Also, douching is a terrible idea - it can actually make you prone to more infections, because it upsets the natural balance in your vagina, and it can also force an infection into the uterus.

Go see your doctor and get tested. BV can be extremely hard to get rid of - I had to go back three times within a month before I finally got rid of it. There are other meds besides Flagyl - there's clindamycin, metrogel, and something else I can't remember. I wouldn't give up :-)

Hey i thought this might help ever heard of acidophillus(not sure about the spelling) its a pill you can take everyday that lowers your chances of getting BV or infections, you can also get acidophillus from yogurt, i'm not sure about all the technical stuff behind it but look it up and ask your doctor.

Also there are yogurt pills that you can insert into your vagina.  Douche with a little vinegar and water and insert one into your vagina every other week or so you can find it in a natural food store in the fridge.

I hope that helps it doesn't work for everyone but try it better than using flagly or other antibiotics

Yes! Actually I was thinking that It could possibly be from my bf's sperm because he does ejaculate inside me everytime we have sex.... so That is Probably why.. Thank you so much for your comment ... Its nice to know im not the only one dealing with this..because sometimes it feels that way :) Thanks!

I am currently going through the same thing. I have had 8 BV infections this year. I have been tested for all STD's-all came back Negative. I am very frustrated, and so is my BF. The dr keeps giving antibiotics, and a list of things to try in order to not get BV. I take showers instead of baths, wipe from front to back, wear cotton undies, I don't use any fem. hygiene products, ....But to no avail. My dr. told me some women are just more prone to getting these infections, and told me that guys cannot carry BV, so my BF did not need to be tested. He did tell me to use a condom, or pull out, because sometimes, when a man cums into you, it can disrupt the natural PH of your vaginal cells, and of healthy bacterial growth...So that is what I am trying now...Hopefully it will work-It's worth a shot.

Yes im sure he's not cheating on me we have walkie talkies and we keep in touch 24-7 because we both are protective of eachother. We both wake up at 7 am and i drive him to work and then he's done at 7 and i pick him up from work and i dont think he would cheat on me in his dump clothes because he works for waste management.. lol and I've been tested for STD's and i also had a pap test done like 4 months ago and everything came back normal... so im not sure whats going on.. as for him getting tested for BV he would probably laugh at me and say its not him.. so im ina situation just wish there was something i could do. Thanks for your comments. I will talk to him about it but probably will be no success. Ciao

Has your boyfriend been tested for any STDs?  Sometimes it
takes both of you being treated to get the best results.
See if he is willing to be checked or treated.  Also, this
may sound bad, but are you sure he is not cheating on you?
It might be worth asking him about it.
