Bleeding black blood

For the past two months, a week before I started my period, I started bleeding a light brown color.  When my period did start, I was bleeding black blood. I've also been having real bad abdomal pain upper and lower even when I'm not having my period.  I've been taking Ortho Novum for a year and my period has never been like this.  Could you please tell me the reason or what I have done that would cause this to happen?

I have had extremely heavy periods....like fill a pad in 5 minutes.  I started getting endometriosis.  My GYN said to stop using tampons for a while.  It helped stop the endo in its tracks...I feel very fortunate.  My uterine lining was still normally twice the thickness of pregnancy, so I was constantly getting biopsies to rule out cancer, too.  However, no more endometriosis after I stopped using the tampons.  Just a thought that may also help.

Im sorry but this is very untrue. I have endometriosis and it is not something that just goes away or that you can prevent it from happening by not using tampons. It is an uncurable disease that causes severe pelvic, fertility problems, and also cause organs like your intestines, bladder, and uterus to all stick together. Your GYN has no clue what they are talking about. Endometriosis can only be diagnosed through surgery. It does not show up on ultrasounds, CAT scans, MRIs, blood tests or any other test. Surgery is the only way to diagnose and treat it.

I was reading every single comment from above, and some of them describe very well my symptoms also: cramping; bloating, irregular periods, abnormal stools, DARK and DRY menstrual blood, low flow and shorter periods, memory loss or lack of concentration,  back pain....well, I have them all for the last 12 months. I went and did some tests. My Gp doctor sent me to have an endoscopy due to excessive gas. They found that I have this bacteria =helicobacter pylori. Got the triple antibiotic course done, and then the Gp doctor send me to have an colonoscopy done. I got  good few samples/ biopsy taken and the results where perfect.( so they say)  I was told I sill need to do the antibiotic treatment once more because the bacteria is still present in my small intestine.....I went back to my Gp because I was still not happy, I still had all of the above. He gave me a form to complete the blood tests, he marked few and I marked down loads......they did the blood tests on me and they said all was fine, the Gp told me all is ok......,,then what? '' I said to him,  ,,what more can I do for you?, he asked ME, what can he do for me.........I asked him to give me a referral to a gynecologist  and I will do even more tests.......I am going nuts

Have you received. Diagnosis? Ladies, insist on a transnational ultrasound and if nothing is found, demand a CT! Trust me in this. All of your symptoms sound like my symptoms and let just say, my news isn't good news.
Did you get the diagnosis? I have the same symptoms and still trying to figure out what is wrong.

Hi guys,
I've read through most these posts & the majority seem confused, still looking for answers. I've read everything from cysts & cancer to old blood & pregnancy. But what really alarms me is the number of us who have black blood periods with no definitive answer as to WHY?! And some of our "symptoms" match but most are all different.
I recently turned 30. My daughter will be 5 this year & before being pregnant with her my period had a mind of it's own, never regular at all. But since her birth in 2009 I have had a regular 25 day cycle with every period starting between noon & 1 pm. I just started my period exactly (to the hour) one week late & it is black with what looks like red confetti. And the best way I can describe it, is 'dry looking'. I had cramps the entire missed week & painful urination rite after the bleeding started. I've taken multiple pregnancy tests, all negative. (I am not on birth control)
I don't know about you guys but I don't have the insurance coverage or money to just be going to the doctor, unless I'm dying.

I'm only 16 I don't know what's going on. I'm bleeding black clumped up blood. I wouldn't even call it a liquid anymore. And I get dizzy while on it and have very bad cramps and back pains. It also makes me sick like throwing up/diarrhea. What's wrong with me?

Same thing with me, I am recently been diagnos with endomitriosis and all the symptoms are showing above what most of us been experiencing. My OB have put me into Medicine therapy by taking contracepive pills which i find it OK? because it does help my cramping subsides. while taking the pills I have been having black blood discharge constantly for a month then i went to consult my OB again, then she told me that my endomitriosis has spread out even more all the way to my colon. so the best way to ge rid of endomitriosis is to undergo for hysterectomy. So my advice as early as possible if you think that there's something wrong with your body consult your physician.

My period is like this sometimes as well. i find that i had pain in my abdominal that was unbearable and caused me to throw up and have diarrhea  sometimes on  the days i didnt have my period.. i had clots and brownish black blood and i got an ultra sound done and it turns out the pain was from rupturing ovarian cysts and that i had 4 ovarian cysts - 2 ruptured- and i still have 2 cysts left and they have not yet ruptured. the two cysts left are on both ovaries not just one- and are painful when they rupture. there is nothing to do about the pain- for these cysts however so i figured it may be this as well.... maybe get an ultra sound done and good luck!!

I have a different problem.  I get a bloody nose about 2 times a week and the blood is black blood.  The bloody nose starts in the night usually around 3-4 am, then I feel week the next day.  I have also noticed that I have a deep pain in my left arm and the veins and arteries on my left arm look very dark (?black?) they really show up if you compare the left arm to the right arm.

ladies black blood may be due a chocolate cyst. It could be numerous diseases/ conditions related to the reproductive organs. Definitely see your doctor. Symptoms of diseases such as POCS or endometriosis can be managed and the pain may be explained. If you suffer severe cramps, clothing and dark spots you should see a doctor. I did and was diagnosed before the disease did major damage to my intestines and fertility.

I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and have been given a 10% chance to live past 5 years. If you girls (and ladies) are lucky enough to be given this lucky chance to be given a possible hint that you have cancer... PLEASE talk to your doctor so you don't have to leave your loved ones behind. I will be leaving behind my 3 year old baby girl and my elderly parents. Don't sit here reading these articles because they clearly didn't help me because I choose not to go to the doctor after reading these posts. And for all of you that have been through radiation know that radiation is worse than bleeding black tar like blood.

I thank all you ladies for your posts and want to say, I too have the black blood thing going on and it has been a couple of years now (I am 46) I did have cervical cancer when I was in my 20's and am supposed to get checked every 6 months to keep an eye on it, but for the past few years my husband and I have both been either unemployed or under-employed and without insurance because of it. (Thanks to our current economy) So I have not been able to get this checked out. It has had me very concerned. This week is the first week I have ever had pain in my vagina though, not like a yeast infection but just a soreness. I have not had intercourse for several weeks because I never go longer than a few (She is only 28!)

I am concerned about this. I am going to look into taking liquid minerals because usually our bodies can fix themself and balance itself out if we have all the nutrition and minerals we need and today all of our produce is being grown on depleted soils so we are not getting the nutrients we need to be healthy. There are many kinds of liquid minerals and I think Life Force International has the best so far that I can tell. I will post more again after I see if this works. Hang tough, it aint asy being a woman!

Hi, my names suzi and I'm 16. I take the combined oestrogen and progestrone pill. I had really painful cramps before the pill and mild whilst taking it. I've had black, not fully broken down uterus lining blood for years, before and whilst taking the pill (I started getting periods very young). I had a full examination and many tests done at a sexual health hospital and I was completely fine. in my case the strange bleeding according to my gp is  because of an iron deficiency I have, and the pains are due to hormone in balances that teenagers often get.
