Brown discharge instead of period?

Hi last month I had a heavy period but it only lasted for 3 days, now this month I started having light brown spotting 5 days before my period is due. It turned into heavy brown discharge for one day, then it flowed red like normal for a day. It was just a little lighter then usual. Then it stopped completely for hours, and now it's brown discharge again. I've had irregular periods my whole life. I'm 23 now, and a virgin, so I know I'm not pregnant. How long until the brown either stops it my period starts. I don't have any other symptoms.

You should ask your doctor about the irregularity.  They may be able to give you birth control to help regulate things, and they really ought to know about changes like that.

The brown discharge just means that it's old blood.  Blood literally rusts after a while (ever left a blood/period stain on something for a while?), so if you're bleeding really slowly, it will be brown by the time it makes it out.

Also i have been taking metroclopram, which I heard can mess with your hormones. I the brow. Spotting and short periods started after I started taking the pills.
