I just got back from the gyno after having a small bump on the inner right (my right) wall of my vagina. It was a bit tender to the touch, and my lower tummy was slightly achy. There was a slight bit of blood too when I reached inside to feel around. It was not a lot of blood, just light pink. I also get white, in-grown hair looking bumps once in a while but never really paid too much attention. I went to the doctor this time though, because I never felt that kind of "achy" feeling and I was worried about the bump.

She drew blood and sent it out to the lab, it should be back in a few weeks. She said she feels like it might be herpes and started me on a course of valtrex saying that if it wasn't herpes, the valtrex wouldn't hurt me anyway.

She was very informative and told me that herpes is EXTREMELY common. There are two types, Herpes 1 and Herpes 2. Herpes 1 is basically above the belt and transmitted by mouth, it can be transmitted between a father and child simply my sharing an ice cream cone. Herpes 2 is transmitted sexually and mostly below the belt. My gyno laughed and was like "it gets really confusing when people with herpes 1 start going down on people, then we're all lost"

Anyway, she told me that I could decide whether or not I wanted to tell my boyfriend yet because we don't know for sure until the tests come back and she said if you have been sleeping together for 4 months already with no protection, you are both already exposed to it. She said herpes is the kind of thing that's like a one time deal, once you're exposed to the same virus, there's really no giving it to each other again or making it worse. She also cautioned and recommended to use protection anyway with my boyfriend. She repeated, some people go their whole lives with no symptoms, some people have it since they were a child, some people get it in the form of cold sores on their mouth, some people get it up inside their vagina, it just depends on how your were exposed and how the virus ran its course.

So I'm just waiting to find out the results. But it's crazy how people get it and don't even know it... and how not everyone gets the same symptoms. You could even mistake hemorrhoids for herpes apparently. Not everyone gets the same blisters, it doesn't always itch. But your most severe outbreak is usually your first. So you might have had an outbreak ages ago and mistook it for something else and not realize what these "herpes recurrences" are.

Also, you can have other symptoms like fatigue, flu-like symptoms (hey, it is a virus!), bleeding, blisters, cold sores, ulcers or little infectious looking rashes.

Point is, you can't be sure until you go. I feel a lot better just that I had a doctor look at me, and run a test. She's not freaking out, so I know I don't have to.

So what are you ladies waiting for? Why are you still reading this? Health Insurance or not, you should find a way to get in to see a doctor. You will feel MUCH better once you know.

BTW - did you know if you are "STRESSED" about herpes, it can lower your immune system and facilitate a recurrence or outbreak? So... chill... ladies! Just go talk to someone.

gotta give more detail than that...

how long have they been there?

are they "poppable"?  (don't try too hard if they're not)

where on your vagina are they?

if you look closely at them does it look like they are on a pore, or just a bump with no hole, or a bump with a hair coming out of it?

are they shiny?  how red are they?  how big are they?

are they painful?  itchy?

if you were to look at them from a side view are they sloped (like a volcano) or more of a mound-type bump (like a bubble)?
