Chills, constantly cold, and low body temperature

I seem to be having the chills often and i am also always cold.  I am the one who has on layers of clothing when my house or the outside temperature is pretty much mild.  At time my body temp has gone down to 96.6, other then that it always seems to be at a lower degree then most people.  When i am at most worst (absolutely freezing in a 68 degree room) i seem to have terrible fatigue.  I also will get neauseous.  i also should add that my hands are always cold, the same with my feet, and are often clammy.  i must mention that the last time my blood pressure was checked (which was nov 2006) it was 90/70. Could my chillyness be from the low BP or something else.  Please help me find an answer.

Anemic?

My former MD told me my thyroid results were normal, however, he disregarded the blood test results.  Go to a Specialist.  Also, according to research conducted by the NCAB, the AMA guidlines for TSH level etc. are too high to be considered within normal range.

I'm 25 yo female about 130lbs, and am constantly cold. I have had blood tests done (Drs. suspected I was anemic because of my pallid complexion) only thing low was Vit. D levels. Other than that, my temperature ranges from 95.9-97.8. I have noticed I don't seem to sweat very much, even when I work out and the only times I do sweat is when I am breaking fevers.

I was just wondering if any of you all had ever had febrile seizures and if that could have any effect to the physiology of the hypothalamus.

I too am sensitive to cold. It is comforting to know that other people experience this too. I have noticed my temperature is 97.2 instead of 98.4 they say is normal. Being cold makes me anxious, and I don't like that at all. Therefore I turn up the heat, and am glad not to live in snow country anymore!

I have constant chills all the time. When everyone else is comfortable with the inside & outside temperatures, I am always freezing. At night I sleep under so many blankets I can barely move. On top of all those, I have an electric blanket turned on high. In the house, I wear 2-3 sweat shirts, a fleese robe, sometimes 2 pair of sweat pants, 2- pair of socks, & slippers. My hands are always cold and I wear gloves at night also. If too cold at night, I wear a zip up pj with feet.  I do have Hypoglycemia, and figured it may be one of the symtoms of that. Does anyone else have a problem such as this and what can I do to stop the chills? I am getting desperate to know why this is happening to me. When I go out someplace I wear a very heavy jacket on top of 2 sweatshirts.

Wow, there are people going through this. I am freezing all the time. I hate to get out of a warm bed and can't wait to get back in. Sometime, I'll take a hot shower to warm up. I am snoozy all the time. I don't think I'd ever get out of bed if I didn't have to. People think I'm crazy when they come over and find my house at 75 degrees, and I'm still dressed in layers! I have always had low blood pressure, both numbers below 100, but that always seem to impress the doctors and nurses! I have been taking Levoxyl for 12 years now, always having my levels checked and occasionally altered. I only weigh 100lbs., so having 'hypothyroidism' has always bewildered me, since you tend to find it in heavier people. I'll hear "If you'd put some meat on those bones you'd be alright". I really don't believe this to be true. I am also very sensitive to heat when I get too warm, like when I have to be outside for something in the summer, which makes no sense either. Temperature intolerence is a term I've heard. Just wondering how to deal with all of this and getting as much info. as I can. Cold feet, hands and body and not all alone with this it seems! Keep smiling chilly ones!

Hi There,
Check out this site above. I had very similar symptoms to the ones you are mentioning. If I ate lunch then my blood pressure would become so low that I would sleep a lot. My problem got worst about 5 years ago, and I'm now 42 years old. Since then I have been dealing with doctors trying to find an explanationg for my lack of energy, chills, etc. In addition, I started having joint pain and stiffness throughout my body and digestive problems, including alternation of dyarrhea and constipation. I am finding out now that my body temperature is low even dough I tend to sweat a lot. Maybe high cortisol or Menopause all together. My thyroid tests came out as normal, but I finally got a doctor to diagnose me with Hypothyroidism based on the symptoms, and dispite the sweatting. I am waiting for the results of ovarian cancer just to rule it out, since the symptoms of the two diseases are very similar. Go to this site above and see that some problems are interelated. I started on Levothyroxin a month ago, and I already had a big improvement. I had never believed that I had Hypo before because of the excessive sweating, but it looks like hypothyroidism overlap with other problems. Check this site and see if it is helpful to you.
My best,
Marcia

I too suffer from cold hands and feet.  My mother had low blood pressure which I also have.  I exercise 3-5 times per week, have had my thyroid checked multiple times over the past 6 years and have always been told, it is normal.  I add low sodium salt to 75% of my meals, yet still feel cold in 70 degrees inside.  My BP after exercising is around 100/70.  Before exercising can be as low as 90/60.  I constantly struggle with my weight because my metabolism is slow.  Is this all related?

I agree with the above comment...you should have your thyroid levels checked.  Hypothyroidism causes a lower body temp and can also reduce your blood pressure.

Yep, your blood pressure being low can make you feel like all of the symptoms that you described. My sister was told to exercise daily and eat items with lots of salt. You may want to see a dr and get some labwork done to be sure-check for anemia and thyroid. Hope you feel better soon!
