Confused about late period.

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for quite some time now. I have been tracking my periods since I was 23 years old and I know my cycle. I am consistenly 27 days everytime and I am never late. The only other time I have been late is the pregnancy of my first son. My husband and I had sex on the day of my ovulation which was on November 30th. My period was supposed to be here on the 11th of December and I am still waiting. There are some symptoms like breast tenderness, increased fatigue, and a bloating stomach. My belly in abnormally large actually. I am not constipated. I took two pregnancy tests and they came back negative. Could this mean that it's too soon, or does it mean I am not pregnant? My friend is pregnant and she said all her tests came back negative until she was 3 months along. Why is that?

I think you could still be pregnant based on your symptoms. I'm not sure why it takes so long to show up on hpts for some women. I'm 11 days late right now & still get negatives, I'm not having any symptoms though, so I think the hpt is accurate in my case. I know stress can make you late.  I'd just give it a couple more days & test again. Good luck!

Most of the time when you hear these "my HPT was negative until 3 months", you're dealing with hazy memories, or someone who tested very early and got a negative and didn't test again until much, much later.

It is rare for a pregnancy test to not pick up hcg in the urine, if there are adequate levels of hcg in the body.  Not impossible, but rare.

However, you might have ovulated late for some reason.  Wait a few days and test again.  If still negative and you don't have your period, consult your doctor.

I know that I didn't test positive on an HPT until I was 6 weeks.  And I tested almost daily.  I didn't even test positive on the blood test that I was given at 3 weeks.  All I can say is if you think you are pregnant just keep testing, if after a week you still aren't getting a positive and have preg symptoms I would say go to your GYN and have them check, you may even be able to request a U/S to verify.  Good luck.

Wow! So quickly on all the feedback! Thank you so much for your advice and kind words. I am just going to take one day at a time and not worry about it. If after another week I still have no period, I will take another test. Thanks again!

Then you didn't have enough hcg in your system to pick up accurately until then.  Big difference between testing pos at 6 weeks, and the oft repeated stories here of women not testing positive until 3 months (and frequently we hear claims of not testing positive until 6 months).

As I said, it's rare, not impossible.

I also didn't mention that for the past few days my back has been killing me. Some really bad cramps going throughout my abdomen into my lower back. They are nothing like the cramps you get right before or during your period. Sorry I didn't mention that sooner.

I wasn't discrediting you or anything.  You point is totally valid.  I was just giving an example of not getting a positive early on in pregnancy.  I had a gf who was pregnant and knew it but was always testing negative on HPT's (she tested 1 or 2x's a week).  She went to the doc finally after I practically had to drag her there.  They did a blood test it was positive and then a u/s a week later. She was 14 weeks pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy.  Bottom line your point is valid and that usually is the case with most just not testing for a long period of time.

No offense taken!  I just get so tired of the claims that hpts just "don't work on me"...blah blah blah.  It may happen rarely, but certainly not with the regularity we hear about on here.

No offense.  We're all a happy family.

DH & I TTC for 5 months now.  My cycles are wacky since coming off the Depo Provera Shot Oct 05.  Cycle length 12- 20 days & I'm at CD22 with 2 BFNs from HPTs.   I probably tested too early, but I have a few early pregnancy symptoms: dizzy this week (almost passed out last night) week, lost 4 lbs practically overnight without working out, have cried a few times and I'm NOT a crier, tight tight muscles in my lower belly/abdomen like I did 100 crunches, and I had one brown spot appear CD14.  My BBT has been a lot lower than normal this month until today.  I've been sitting at 36.2 - 36.4 (celcius) all month, not even showing ovulation, but this morning I was 36.6. Usually the day I get AF my temps bottom out consistently at 35.9 or 36.0.  I know I'm barely late, but my cycles haven't exceeded 20 days in a year.  If AF hasn't shown by Dec 18, I'll take another HPT.  If that's a BFN, I'll wait another 3 days and go to my Dr and get a blood test.  I'll post my results whatever they may be back on this Thread so ya'll can be updated and maybe this will help someone else!   I'm interested to hear other TTC stories that have involved past use of the Depo Provera shot so if you have one, please post!
Thx

You should have made a new thread for this.  I don't think you're going to get much back on it.
