Considering birth control options

I'm looking into getting on birth control now. The thing is I'm a smoker and worry about the fact that they say smoking can cause risks. But don't think I can quit. So any suggestions about what kind of birth control to get on, without not having sex.

i was on the pill, and smoked. they say the risks increase if you're over 35. if you're generally healthy and under 35, you should be fine. they have to warn you about the risks in case god forbid something went wrong. (by the way- i loved being on my pill. no negative side effects at all). but statistically, your chances of having the severe side effects like blood clots or stroke are pretty slim.

Have you thought about an IUD?  Smoking won't affect that. But most Dr.s don't like to put one in if you have never had a child. Not sure if you have one or not.
There is also the Depo shot. I have heard equaly good and bad from that. I'm not sure about smoking while on that. Both of my sisters smoke and have been on the depo shot for years. not sure what a Dr. would say though.
Talk with you dr. and tell him that you smoke. He should be able to help you to find the best one for your situation.

I can't recommend any...but I can def advise you not to take the depo shot.
I was on it for nearly 8 years....and I have been off it now for over a year...I am still having
wonky periods.
It really can screw with your system.
Some ppl may love it....so did I...I was quite content having no period and no side effects for almost 8 years.
But now....I really wished I never took it in the first place.
Hopefully you will find the right bc for you.
Good Luck!
