first of all have you timed ur contractions? (how close together and how long they last) - i was induced with my first and second just happened.
Have your waters broken or have you had a show and have you phoned your midwife or nearsest hospital? (sorry lots of questions)
This is all you need to know really
also are you due or are you early as this is important.

how far is it to the hospital. Reason i ask is mine is 15 miles there so i had to leave with plenty of time and i also had to get a babysitter ready for my first child.
As long as your comfortable at home things should be fine.
i went in when i was 4 mins apart and lasting 40 secs cuz i knew i didnt want to get stuck in traffic.
If they come and go and occassionally calm down they may be braxton hicks - these can be slightly painful, but just an early warning.
Hope this helps hun and good luck

How far along are you?  I had braxton hicks contractions from the time I was 5 or 6 mths pregnant until I went into labor.  Braxton hicks are small contractions that are trying to prepare your body for delivery.  They are harmless and nothing to worry about.  Mine started out so small that I could barely notice and then in the last two weeks of pregnancy they were very strong.  You definatly need to discuss this with your doctor on your next visit to make sure that it is braxton hicks and to calm your nerves.

i had false labor about 6 times, went to the hospital with all(they stopped the contractions) on my last visit the staff told me not to come back until i could not talk through a contraction, and they were 3 minutes apart,i thought that was a little rude, but it saved me from going a few times after, they said when the contractions are real labor, you will know, they kept telling me the baby wouldnt just "fall out" so my advise is if you think its really labor then go, but always be prepared to be sent home.

I'm due on March 2 and I've been having contractions for a while now.  when i questioned my doc, I was told that I just needed to keep an eye on them.  If i began to bleed while having them, go to the hospital, or if I had 4 in a half hour period or 6 in an hour's period, then go.  But the one consistent thing they told me is taht the contractions need to be regular.  like 5-10 minutes apart consistently.  i have quite a bit of contractions... one comes, the next can be 6 minutes later, then 10 minutes, then 5 minutes, etc.  once they get on a more regular cycle, then make sure you give yourself enough time to get to the hospital.
