Diflucan and anti-itch creams

I was given a prescription for Diflucan (with 1 refill) on Friday because I was showing similar symptoms of a past yeast infection. I know it's only been one day, but I haven't noticed any marked improvement so I am wondering if it is safe to use hydrocortizone cream to help alleviate the external irritation. Or maybe an OTC yeast infection cream? How long does it take to feel the effects of Diflucan? Should I get my refill and take it? This feeling is driving me crazy. I just want it to go away.

Yes I am very well aware of that. But after being told by countless people (doctor, pharmacist, friends who have used it) that you'll start to "feel" better within 24 hours, that's what I was expecting that's all. I guess it just takes longer to work on me. Oh well, no biggie.

You just don't take a pill and 'bam' the infection and it's effects are gone. These things take a while to resolve. Once the yeast are knocked down in numbers, you body has to calm down and heal itself. Sometimes the inflammation just takes a while to go away.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm still itchy, but it's easing up a little. Snug clothing seems to trigger it, so as long as I stay loose and free I feel ok for the most part. I guess if I keep feeling itchy by the end of the week I'll have to go back to the doctor though and see what's up. I can't imagine Diflucan taking so long to work so maybe there is something else going on. Ugh.

Thanks again!! I will do as suggested. :o)

I'd say stick with Diflucan, to me it works wonderfully. If you willing to try something more traditional, try boiling about 10 betel leaves (Piper betle) with 400cc water, some would say that you should drink the water (but to some tradition, to drink the water is more for heart disease, and it doesn't taste that great to be honest. So, use the water (once warm enough for the skin to handle) to wash/spray your vaginal area. If you can find some vaginal wash containing the extract of betel leave, use that too. Betel leave is well known to help maintain vaginal health, it's cheap and it works wonderfully. Good luck.

And, to answer your question, when I used Diflucan, I took it in the morning, and by the afternoon I was feeling a lot better already, so it works quickly.

I wouldn't use the hydrocortizone cream.  Steroids will thin your vaginal tissue. If you want a little relief from the itch while the diflucan works, you can soak in an epsom salt bath and you can also use a cold pack against your tender tissues for 10-15minutes. Just be sure not to freeze yourself which could cause damage.
