Dizziness, vision going black for 1 or 2 seconds.

Hi, I'm only 14 years old but yesterday I was sitting at my computer for a long time and when I stood up, I became dizzy and my vision faded and went black for about 2 seconds, then it came back to my normal sight. This has happened to me about 2 times in the past year. Is this anything serious? Should I be worried?

I have had this same thing happen to me. My vision will sometimes go blurry; a sort of blackish, brown fuzziness will blur my vision, lasting for about 4-5 seconds. I'm around your age, 14 years. It may be orthostatic hypotension or a T I A, which might be serious. Talk to a doctor is my best advice to you and make sure to drink more water to stay hydrated because it is sometimes can be caused by dehydration.

I would say at 14, orthostatic hypotension is much more realistic than a TIA.  Hydrating is indeed essential for orthostatic hypotension as is keeping blood sugar up through eating properly and on time.  Thanks for sharing.

Hey guys after reading most of the comments I realized that most of y'alls happen when you just stand up after sitting. This is called orthostatic hypotension. Basically it's when you stand up and your blood pressure drops. It's apparently common in younger people (teens mainly). I have the thing when you're walking and it'll go black and I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I'm about to go get it checked out soon so fingers crossed.

Getting back to y'all because I'm weird and don't have a life, I talked to the doctor about it and he said that I most likely have POTS. POTS is short for Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Basically it's due to the reduced blood volume when standing up. Some self treatment for it is increasing salt intake, increased exercises, and drinking copious amounts of water. But if you are experiencing the symptoms it can also be something a lot scarier, please go check with your doctor!
That is what just happened to me! I’m 13 and I’m so scared my dads a doctor should I tell him? What if it’s nothing?

lf you are having dizzy spells when walking as a 13 year old, you need to speak to your parents.  Drop in blood sugar can cause this, inner ear issues, etc.  but it is dangerous to be dizzy when walking due to falls.  this is different than vision issue after long time in front of a computer.  at 13, you need to let parents know for true help.
I am 17 now and have dealt with this for 5 years. It started when I was 13 and I ran track, got super dizzy (almost fainted) during one of my races. Turns out I am Hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). I have learned from my doctor that eating something as soon as you get up in the morning helps prevent these dizzy spells. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water. I have learned the hard way of not drinking enough water. I have a fast metabolism, so I constantly have to eat snacks in order for my blood sugar to stay at a normal level. You should eat snacks just in case you have low blood sugar.

I'm 13 and this happens to be when I am laying or sitting down for a while. When I get up I have to stand still for a little while to regain focus but it's back to normal.

im 14 and this happens often. the first time it happened was a year ago. i told my mom and she said that it happens to her too and it's when she is in one position for too long. it happens to me after i tans up. the first time it happened my sister saw it and was very worried. i didn't think much of it. it just happened again and i didn't want my sister to see so as i was loosing balance and my vision was going away i tried walking away but in the process my vision was gone. i ran into a door and my sister was very worried. i asked her not to say anything because i don't want my family to worry. what is happening?

Hypotension, blood pools in the lower parts of the body cause a loss of pressure in the brain. Google things like "standing up too fast" etc...

It's common, sometimes you're dehydrated and that causes it.

I'm a 15 year old girl and very rarely since possibly 2 years ago, I can't remember when I started to black out, but i would usually be getting up, whether it'd be out of bed or up from a chair, usually I'd be getting out of bed and I'd walk out of my room into the hallway and I'll loose sight and everything goes black for about 5-10 seconds. Once I start to black out I loose control of my body slowly, I have just enough time to brace myself by going to the floor or hold on to the counter in the kitchen, it depends how far I make it before my vision starts to go. Once I've braced myself, I think I can feel myself shaking, my back, my head, my arms, i think I shake because I'm trying to get up but I don't think about getting up usually, it all happens so fast the blackout and then after that I can't completely describe what happens during this episode, but once it's done my brain forgets the fear it was in and I just get up and continue doing what I was doing with what just happened in the back of my mind.

I am twelve and a half now. I am a girl, and these Blackouts have been happening since last Christmas. Sometimes it happens when I stand up to fast or a dehydrated. But most of the time I will be walking down the hall at my house or in gym. The other day we were running lines in gym I blacked out and ran into the girl next to me. I do have glasses because I have a stigmatism but I also have skulleousis. I have wandered if that might have something to do with it. I don't diet and don't have diabetes because my parents had me checked. When I blackout it is like my vision is fading to black, and I get a little dizzy when my vision comes back. I also sometimes get headaches.

Guys, this can be related to anemia, or low blood pressure, or being on a diet, or deficiency of some elements, and probably many other things...  see a professional and get tested.

Here is something to consider:

I'm sorry to say that but your doctor is an idiot - "because you are 6' tall your blood takes a long time to reach your head, so that's why you fades"??? - unbelievable!  My advise - change your doctor...

Hi! I'm 11 and I have been experiencing the SAME THING!!!! It started when I was about 9 or so, and once in 5th grade, I was with my dad and I was just about to go upstairs to go to bed. The couch was in the way, and I knew it was there, but couldn't see ANYTHING except for black. I couldnt just stand around and wait, but it wasn't clearing up, I could tell it wasn't. I literally had to MAKE MYSELF TRIP over the couch IN FRONT of my dad before I could see again!!! After that it would happen a little more often, but wouldn't even go completely black. A little more recently, it has been happening ever so slightly less often, but it's starting to go for a little longer and I'd see more black, even if it doesn't completely cloud up. I know it's been quite a while, but at least you know you aren't alone. :) (BTW: I have no medical help or treatments, etc, so if you do, please tell me because that would be SOOO helpful!!!!!)

I'm 15 and this has been happening to me since I was around 10 to 11 years old. It only happens when I'm sitting or laying down for maybe an hour or more and usually I feel light headed and my legs shake and I get so dizzy that I usually end up falling down. I have told my parents and they have said not to worry about it, but they don't know anything about the human body... Kind of nervous this is something bad. I have all of the symptoms of low blood pressure and hypotension but it doesn't fit because I know for a fact that my family has genes for high blood pressure. I'm around 5'3" and 120 lbs, so in the general weight to height range. I exercise a lot because I'm on my schools soccer team. If you know anything please reply back. I'm getting tired of falling down and having my legs shake uncontrollably. Thanks.

I am 14 and i have the problem, except it will happen almost every time i stand up no matter if i am concentrating on something or not, and i can take a few steps or even walk across the house before it happens and it goes on for anywhere from 7 seconds to 3 minutes. I've had this going on for about two years, i'm not anemic, not on a diet, drink water, and everything else.

A couple months back, it started to happen that, i didn't have to stand up to have the black out vision and dizziness, but the slightest change in elevation would trigger it. I'm an art student and it has started to effect my work. i don't know what's going on.

Don't worry, I'm 13 and I get this too and I've asked my family and friends and they say they get it when they stand up too quickly and things like that- it's just the blood rushing from your head. It's nothing to worry about.

im 16 and iv'e been getting this ALOT lately i get up and i cant see very clearly for a few seconds but im not dizzy my vision is just a little blurry but me and my mom are kind of worried because although i dont need glasses i have 2 other vision problems one is that when i see multiple things right next to eachother that r the same like letters or 0s in ex. 100000 dddddd they sort of blend together if im trying to count them like from far away or if they're really small the other thing is that when looking at lets say my hands and something in the distance i always see two of them and my dad has had me do these things to see which of my eyes is dominate but i cant tell because i could see the thing (at least part of it in one eye) through my hands in both eyes (the thing he had me do was look at a object through my hands and see which eye i could see it in when i closed one) but it never worked

The only thing I can think of was what I was doing at the time.  I was lying down with one of those neck pillows on and maybe pinched circulation or something. But anyhow I was playing 3 games on my android phone. I wear glasses and had them off and had the phone close to my eyes to see the games.  These games I love love love but they have much repitition. One is Diversion for Android, Unicorn Dash and Find the Ball.  I had to really move my eyes alot. My sight blacked out for like one second. I know I did not blink and was not sure and a couple of days later it happened again.  I stopped playing the games and stopped smashing my neck with the neck pillow. So far no more episodes. I told my doctor and he is stumped but is now checking my blood. Hope this helps someone.

Im 14 yrs old too and I have the same exact problem, after I sit for a while or when getting up from bed in the morning I get extremely dizzy, my legs get weak, and my vision fades to black and then slowly comes back to normal after a few seconds. I normally have to hold onto the wall to, and kind of like lean on it until my vision comes back . I don't know if these few seconds of black is considering "blacking out" or like fainting quickly and then coming back, but I am going to the doctor in a week and I'm going to ask her about it. Everytime I go she has never said anything about my blood pressure so I don't really know what it is. Maybe it is low blood pressure buy not significant and that's why she never says anything? I don't really know but from what I have read that sounds like what it is.

Hi, I'm 13 and have been having blackness and dizziness ever since I was about 9. I never really became concerned about it until I was about 11 or 12. I went to the eye doctor but they said my vision was fine and now I'm starting to get worried. I remember one time I lost my vision and it didn't come back until about 10 seconds which REALLY got me a bit freaked out. Also, I sort of have pressure on my eyes when all of this happens. Whenever I go back to my pediatrician I'm going to tell him about it. But it would've been a VERY smart thing for me to do 4 years ago.
