Do you ovulate if you dont have your period?

Okay.  I'm 23 years old and I have a very irregular period.  I only have it every 4 months or so and when I do it is really heavy.  I haven't had my period for about 3 months now.  I recently had sex and the guy came inside of me twice. Stupid mistake, I know.  That was about a week ago.  For the past couple days I have had really bad stomach cramps.  Almost like period cramps but it really isn't time for me to have my period.  I was just wondering if you do ovulate even if you dont have your period? Being pregnant isn't really a concern right now because I am assuming these are just period cramps, but I would like to know the answer just in case I dont start in the next week or so.  Should I worry about being pregnant?  I mean it's only been a week....would I even be able to tell anything yet?  I am pretty sure a test wouldn't work this soon but since I dont really know when I am going to have a missed period I'm not sure when I should take a test if I dont start.  I just need some advice.  I have talked to my mom about this and she just says that I'm stupid for thinking that I could be pregnant but it's my body.  Something just doesn't feel right.  I need help!

Yes you could still get pregnant from that.  Just because you aren't getting your period regularly does NOT necessarily mean that you are not ovulating and can't get pregnant.  If you aren't ready for a baby always use some form of birth control.  I had a baby at 16 because me and my boyfriend at the time thought that as long as he pulled out before finishing that we would be fine.

I have always had irregular periods but after I had my first son, my periods didnt start up again on their own.  It was probably six or seven months with no period.  The dr prescribed medroxyprogesterone to jump start my period again.  They say they dont like you to go more than six months without a period simply because its good for your uterus to shed its lining and clean itself out.  The medication did work but had some side effects for me.  Years later, when I was a newly wed my periods stopped once again.  We were also trying to concieve at the time and wondering if it was going to be possible when I hadnt had a period in 6 months or so.  They offered to give me the medication again but I was reluctant to accept it because of the side effects I had before.  I had asked them if I could still become pregnant even without a period and they said its possible but not likely since they didnt think I was ovulating, hence no period.  They offered to set me up with a fertility clinic but I declined at the time.  We were newly weds so we could wait a while before taking that route.  I believe we tried for almost a year before surprise surprise I was pregnant. So don't think that just because you aren't getting periods that you aren't ovulating but I do believe that it is important to get the advice of an obstetrician in case there is a problem.

I have always had irregular periods. I went on the pill and got preg with my first child in 1993. I was on the pill again after I had her and ten years later I got preg again with my second child. Now I have had a TL and still irregular and I still have a fear at times of getting preg. Yet statics show that a TL is a perm sterilization and the fear still there. I believe that if GOD wants you to have a baby...It will happen. I have also asked alot of OBGYN's and honestly I have never had a straight answer or an answer at all. So lord knows. Now I am a medical student and to be honest a womans body is fasinating and there is never a true answer. The only way to ever prevent preg is to not have sex at all.

Hi, I am 23 years old and I have always had irregular periods. The last time I've had a period was 15months ago =\ I have been tested and scanned for PCOS and nothing came back possative. Me and my partner are trying to concieve and I was wondering whether anybody else could advice me? I tried speaking to my GP a few months back but he seemed rather unsure.... (with PCOS and TTC) not helpful! I'm thinking of taking clomid but I dont know whether that would help increase my chances on getting pregnant??? Irregular periods seem to run through my family, my cousin now has been diagnosed with PCOS, but I'm the only one atm that has no syst on my overies and the LONGEST without a period. Please help x

This could be hormonal, or cervical cysts (the irregular periods that is) as far as the sharp cramps it could be period cramps or actually ovulation cramps. I get this really sharp pain in my sides (It alternates each month) that I used to think was my appendix but it was ovulation.  If you have ovarian cysts it can cause those pains.  To answer your ovulation without a period question the answer is yes you can ovulate without having a period. Your period is meant to cleanse the body and flush out the unfertilized eggs that you release. You ovulate before your period. If you haven't already done so I would go to your OB and talk with them. There are birth controls to help regulate and to help with cysts (if this is what you have).  I wish the best for you and your boyfriend, be careful with that heat of the moment no protection business...;)

I've been on the depo for 2 years and stop ped having a period last september 2009. For that two weeks my breast have been hurting and are getting bigger, i took a pregnancy test and it was negative but i still like i might be pregnant. My husband went with me to my dr yesterday and he was in such a rush that he confused me with maybe another patient. He didnt even exam me i told him about my breast and also that my stomach is bloated all the time and even firm around my abdomenn lower. he said i'm ovulating but i'm not believing that cause i havent had a period in year plus i read that your not supposed to ovulate on the depo. My husband even feels like i might be pregnant and i have been pregnant twice, first time with twins and second with my son so i know when my body is changing so what should i do i kinda want to switch dr's cause my dr wouldn't even feel my stomach like i wanted him to he really didnt do anything but make up excuses for all my symptoms and then tried putting me on another birth control called yaz and i had to tell him i'm on the depo.
so confused

Hi All...

I used to have heavy and long periods up until last Nov. Doc put me on Progestrone and iron pills coz i was anemic from the blood loss. And after that i'v had regular periods for 3 months, feb 17 was my last period. I'm late about 2 months now. I took 2 HPT and 1 blood test about 2 wks ago and they were all neg. I feel so pregnant. I'm hot, hungry and sleepy all the time, nauseaus, heartburn, headaches and lower back ache. Am I crazy to think I'm pregnant even after those neg tests results? My husband and I been trying for 5 months. I'm 33 yrs.
