I'm 28 years old, with no possibility that I'm pregnant.
I waas diagnosed with a 3.1cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary in the beginning of May. On or around June 8, I started my period and 2.5 days later, at work, I started feeling some of the worst pains imaginable. Felt like someone had stabbed me with a serated knife and twisted. It went away after about an hour and the pain subsided. I thought It was my cyst bursting. My doctor thought it was my cyst bursting so I didn't think to much of it.
Then on Monday morning, precisely 2.5 days after I started my period again... i was woken up to extreme pain in the same area, only the pain was even worse than it had been last month.
It lasted about an hour and a half this time and soreness and pain lingered, still does (Its Wednesday night) to a lesser degree.
I went to the doc and because I was menstruating at the time, she chalked it up to cramps and sent me home with a birth control Rx.
However I've never had cramps that left soreness in any form afterwards. Not have they ever been sharp stabbing pains. It's usually dull pain all over that area, not just one spot.
Another thing that concerns me is that my period stopped when the pain started Monday morning at 3am. Then around 36 hours later it started again, enough to soak one tampon about 3 hours and then went away again.
I'm still getting sharp stabbing pains a bit lower (area above the clitoris and below the waistline, not sure name for it) and occasionally near my uterus.
I had an ultrasound (both transvaginal and pelvic) when the ovarian cyst was discovered in May, and the doc never said anything about endometriosis or fibroids or anything like that.
I'm scared that the sharp stabbing pain is going to return on my next period and that it'll throw me out of commission for another 3 days. My doc wants to wait 2 months to see how the birth control pills work, but I don't think I can wait that long.
