Enlarged uterus

Dr said I have enlarged uterus, about 18 cm. Had biopsy, waiting on results. Makes me very nervous. Pap smear was normal. Had ultrasound and no masses, polyps or fibroids. Guess I should have ask more questions. Would endometriosis cause an enlarged uterus? I had surgery several years ago and had that lasered. I'm 52 and perimenopausal.

Wonderful news! I'm still shedding mine but my BC pill has estrogen too. I'm thinking I need to go progesterone only since I really haven't stopped bleeding for more than three days at a time since December and I've yet to take a placebo.

I hope all goes well!

I just got my biopsy report. It was normal. Will have another appointment to discuss it. I'm guessing he'll put me on provera to shed the thick lining of my uterus. I'm so relieved... I'm glad I had this site to vent on and nice people to let me vent. Thanks.

I have an enlarged uterus too. At one point it measured the size of a 16-week pregnancy. My gyn said it's not uncommon for peri/menopausal women, especially those who have had kids, c-section or any other surgical procedure. Many women don't even notice any effects of the increased size and therefore no treatment is necessary.

Since I had symptoms, my gyn suspected I have Adenomyosis. When she first discussed it she said that sometimes it can be managed with birth control but that partial hysto would be the absolute fix. She did another sonogram with saline and did a biopsy. She never mentioned Adenomyosis again once the biopsy found polyp tissue. I had a month between ultrasounds and my uterus had shrunk by half in that time, on it's own. It's possible that my uterine issues are linked to hypothyroid too. My GP originally thought it was temporary and had set all of my uterine issues off. My three-month blood check confirmed that it isn't temporary and I started meds three weeks ago.

All in all, I've barely stopped bleeding in six months and was insanely heavy flow for six months before that. I take 95mg of iron daily. Birth control still isn't doing the trick. If anything, the bleeding is worse and has caused me to pass all sorts of tissue. I just started thyroid meds though so I'm hoping for something to change before I decide to get something surgical done.

I hope your doc gives you some options.
