Forever Periods....

So I have never had a normal cycle in my life (you know the 3-5 day type). I'm 29 years old and it wasn't really much of a bother before because my period just usually never came. For the past 5 years or so, however, I have my period more often than not. I can comfortably say out of 365 days I probably have my period (on a good year) for about 240 days. The longest I've ever had it was 64 days straight but nowadays if it goes away before 30 days I consider it a short cycle. When it does go away I can get anywhere from 15-20 days before it comes back. I want to get on bc because I heard it helps but definitely don't want the side effects. So, that being said....WTF? Am I completely abnormal?

I haven't been to a gynecologist yet because I'm scared. I know that probably sounds stupid but it's the truth.

I had periods that would last 10 days so I took birthcontrol to help and it did and after about 2 years I stopped taking it and my period was regulated to 3 days. The bc was fine the first time I took it and I took yaz but now they started me on a different one and I felt funny the first day and didnt want to take it then! Its called sprintec I think. I liked yaz!

Have you been to a gynecologist or physician about this?  There is something going on, and you need to figure out what it is.  It's not healthy to have such long periods and is often a symptom of hormonal issues or other problems.
