Had my Mirena IUD removed

Had it removed 4 weeks ago exactly due to terrible problems from it. I wont post my story unless you want to know. Last week I had pain on my left ovary and today pain on my right. Its almost like a pinching feeling. Leads me to believe it (they) are cysts. When I normally am not on BC I have 28 day cycle. But not sure what to think since just having the IUD removed. Anyone have experience with this ?

I don't know about all these symptoms.  I haven't had any of that except my period never went away like other peoples.  However, my IUD went through my uterine wall and now I have to have it surgically removed.  Has anyone heard of this?  This is my second IUD, I had no problems with my first.  So, this is a big shock to me.

I just had my Mirena removed today.  I had had it in for 4 yrs and could not get any answers as to why I was having so many different symptoms.  I had headaches that would last for a week, heart palpitations, anxiety, extreme mood swings ect..  At my appt this am I told my doctor why I wanted it removed and he told me that there was NO way that the Mirena had caused these symptoms even though I got them not to long after it was inserted.  I am now going to start traking how my symptoms are and if they clear up, which I am certain they will, I am going to let him know just how wrong he was.  He actually tried to talk me out of getting it removed!  I am so glad I started researching this topic on my own and found others who have had similar experiences.  Thank you!!

I just want to add that I had my Minera IUD placed November 2009.  When the doctor told me about it, she made it seem as if it was soooo simple and it was really quick.  I made an appointment because I had an hour to squeeze into my day.  Little did I know that there was so much to be discussed because of all the side effects.  Anyways, I let her continue with the procedure.  It was definitely uncomfortable and bled for two days with cramps for at least 5-6 days.  So here is my assessment:

Pros:
- Love not having to take something routine/monthly
- Love that it allows me to be spontaneous and not have to worry about missing periods, pills, etc.
- No weight gain, who doesn't love that!!
- No loss of sexual appetite

Cons:
- Major, major, major hair loss (I have beautiful jet black, thick long hair that is falling in chunks - clogged my drain twice last month)
- Uncomfortable cramps spontaneously
- Mild acne
- Get moody

Decision:
Having it removed this month.  I love my hair and I can't see it fall like this.  I'm going back to using the patch.  I can deal with the weight gain from the patch but not the hair loss from the IUD.

Hi, I have had the Mirena in for the last two years and have been completely unaware that all the bad side effects have been from the Mirena.  My Gyn. told me that it was due to my Hormones balancing after the baby.  Recently I chattted to a friend of mine about these side effects and realized that it was actually from the Mirena.  She had the same side effect and had the Mirena removed after finding out that she had grown fibroids! She suggested natural Progeterone cream which seems to be helping a little, but, from reading up I am not sure that I'm doing the right thing.  My friend also suggested I sue the doc for not giving me sufficient information, shows you, you cant trust anyone when there is money to be made!  I am in the process of booking to have the Mirena taken out but my Gyn cut the strings too short and It looks like it will be a major process and expense to remove, but I am more motivated than ever to have it done now.  Thank you to all the ladies that have put in their comments I thought I was going mad but its good to know that when you think your body is telling you something, take note, chances are you are right!

I am having my mirena taken out on friday. Does anyone have any advice? I am nervous about what will happen after. I have been having horrible side effects, weight gain, think hair, acne. I didn't know it was my mirena until I had to go to a cardiologist and he did bloodwork. My ob never told me any of this could happen. Hopefully I will feel better soon, I hope I get my energy back and just overall become myself again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I truly believe we need to have a class action lawsuit against Mirena for not listing all these adverse effects.  Who knows what other long-term effects it might have.  The doctors are useless too.  We can't go after the doctors together but we can go after Mirena as a group.  Just from this post alone, there are 347 replies, and this is only one posting.  There are many more just like it on other sites.  If you ladies know any medical lawyers or is one please look in to this.  I'll be happy to tell my story in court.
