Hair growth, weight gain, and other problems.

I am waiting for tests to comes back (appt. Nov 21) - my doctor said he does not want to scare me and won't tell me what it is.  He said it is not PCOS. Here are my symptoms.

Excessive Hair Growth- Starts 2 in. below breasts, gets coarse at my belly button & goes on down my thighs - also on my chin, neck, and side burn area that is black and coarse.

Weight Gain --  Before having my son in 2002 I weighed 125. I gained 18lbs while pregnant. I lost that but now weigh 210. My diet not changed. I eat home cooked meals, lots of fruits and veggies. My face has also grown rounder as well.  In addition, I have a thicker neck area now too.

Acne- After I had my son I began to get pimples. I thought it was due to the hormonal change of having a child. Well, Layne will be 4 this month, and I am seeing a dermatologist for my acne.

Menstrual Irregularity - I generally have a period every 2-3 months, but rarely more often than that. I have gone as long as about 6 months without a cycle. It took me 15 months to get pregnant, and then I miscarried -- I did finally have a daughter after that though.

Other things of note (not necessarily related):

* I have stretch marks that are pink and purple colored going all the way up to 3 in below my breasts.  They also are on my breasts, arms, and thighs.
* I have preciously been diagnosed depression as well as anxiety.
* I get frequent sinus infections and as of late frequent ear infections as well.

I have found a few things that it could be, but I would love some insight from you all.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am from South Mississippi.  I just moved to Savannah Georgia in August (yet another coast to worry about hurricanes one lol).  My husband will be stationed here as soon as he returns from overseas in December.  Nice to meet you! :) And thank your husband for helping out after the hurricane.

I just had my thyroid tested right before I left Mississippi in August thinking that maybe it was that causing my problems.  My tests were completely normal.  So, no, it is not my thyroid.  Given my first set of tests, my doctor also said it is not PCOS -- this second doctor brushed that off as well indicating it was more serious than that.  He indicated that he was sure he knew what it was but hesitated for a moment and then decided to run 3 more tests.  I asked several times what he thought it was.  He would not tell me.  He only said that he does not want to scare me.  When I asked again he said he did not want to frighten me and that I would just have to wait until he got the results.

From the way the doctor talked (both what he said and what he refused to tell me).  I am thinking that it may be Cushing's Disease.  It sure sounds that way to me.  I meet just about every symptom of it.

The waiting is killing me.  I go back on the 21st, but it seems like forever!

Oceans, It is funny we came back at the same time -- go figure!  lol  The depression I went through right before I had Ashlee.  I think a lot of it was that Ray had just left and Hurricane Katrina hit...etc, etc.  It was pre-partum depression.  Once I had her it was gone!  Honestly, it only lasted a few weeks.  I have never had anything like it before or since.  I really was not that bad either.  It is so great to see hear from you! I am so glad to see you are still here! :)

Joanna,  It is great to see you too!! :)  I am not too far away from you now that I am in Savannah.  Maybe one day a visit will be in order.  :)  The kids are doing great!  Ashlee is done with physical therapy, and is in perfect health -- she is 9 months old now!  Layne turns 4 the day after Thanksgiving.  He is so precious.  You should see him with Ashlee.  :)  He is getting so excited about Daddy coming home.  December 5th!!! Yeah!!!  :)

Oh I just got a message this week from Jenni on Gather as well.  She posted an adorable pic of Cady.  I have a few up of my kids as well.  BTW if you tried to send me anything on AOL, I was changing over to the free account with them.  So my old account is once again active.

More than anything, I have just been keeping busy.  I work from home now, and between the two kids (neither are in daycare) and that I go nonstop.  I guess the fact that I am staying so busy is a good thing.  It keeps my mind off of things.

A friend of mine from Mississippi is flying in the same day I get my results.  The trip has been planned for months, it is just coincidence that the only appointment I could (unless I wanted to wait until the end of December) was the same day she flies in.  I guess considering the results I am looking at, it is really good that she will be here.  She flies back on the 28th, and then Ray comes home the next week.

I will let everyone know the results as soon as I get them.  I appreciate the kind words, prayers, and support.

Hi.  I was just reading through everyone's posts and saw where you were from MS and mentioned huricane Katrina.  I live in northeast MS myself and my husband is a fireman and first responder/search & rescue.  He went to the coast twice after the huricane, once as search & rescue right after & once a couple of weeks later with a large group of people from our church with several trucks of supplies.  Anyway, I wanted to say hi to you and wish you well.  Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Manda!!!!!!!!!! Like Oceans said, it is too wierd that we both popped her heads back in the door at the same time!!!! Everything happens for a reason!
I am so glad to see you but sad that you are having so many things to deal with right now. I really have no idea what could be going on other than what the other ladies have already mentioned but I do want to add this... You are one of the strongest women I have ever met and you will get through anything life throws at you.
I hope the children are doing okay and hubby is home soon. We are here for you!
Gosh I missed you!!

How long have you had the cushing syndrome.  I am 30 and was diagnosed with it at 18 years of age.

hi again, i forgot to mention that i agree with the first poster in the suggestion to have your thyroid checked. that would be a good start. is the depression/anxiety somthing new for you or did this just sneak up on you? i know you moved and hubby is away. is it any of that? or do you think it's hormonal imbalance after the baby?

Is your doctor checking your thyroid??  that may be part of the weight gain.  The hair growth might be partly from a chemical imbalence and I hope your doctor is checking that as well.
