Hard Bump on Cervix - Scared!

I got my period yesterday, and then today it seems to have slowed down majorly, to almost nothing.

Sorry if this is TMI, but I was feeling to see if there was blood there when I noticed a hard bump on my cervix.

I had a pap in February and everything was fine, but my mom had cervical cancer in her 20's so I am scared.

Does anyone know what this is?

I feel a little better now that it doesn't seem to be an emergency. I called my gyno today and the receptionist said I should come in tomorrow, just to have it checked out.

I had a Magnesium shot yesterday. Could that have stopped my period? It came on Sunday, and then by yesterday afternoon, there was nothing there. A little spotting last night, but nothing much.

I agree with wifey06. Once your cervix is dilated, even for mc, it doesn't go back the same way. There are dimplings in the cervix. It can also be a cyst that goes away on it's own. Not an emergency, just mention it at your next scheduled gyn appt.

I wouldn't get too stressed about it and I don't think it's an emergency. When did you first notice it? I would make note of that and call your doctor and let them know, and ask to be checked just because of your family history, it will make you feel a lot better to know it's okay.

It really sounds like a nabothian cyst to me, which 99% of the time will go away on it's own. Even if it was a polyp (which it doesn't sound like, because they are spongy feeling), they are almost always benign. If you have unusual bleeding, pain, or excess cervical fluid (more than you are used to), you should see the doctor.

But in any case, don't panic, most likely it is a cyst that will go away on it's own. If you want to, check it daily to watch for changes in size or texture (always with clean hands!) If it lasts over 2 weeks and is still not gone, it's time to see the doctor.

It feels small and firm, just like a hard bump.

Would it be something that I would need an emergency appointment for?

I have had small folicular ovarian cysts before, but nothing on my cervix that I know of.

Does it sound like some kind of cancer or STD?

It sounds like a nabothian cyst - is it small and firm? They are very common and are caused by glands that become blocked. They usually disappear on their own but if it doesn't you should have your doctor check just to rule out anything else.  If you have a bump that feels spongy, or is painful, it may be a polyp, and you should have that checked as well.

Thank you for your replies.

No, I've never given birth, but I did have a miscarriage in September 2006. To my knowledge, I didn't have any complications from that.

Have you ever given birth? All kinds of things happen with the cervix and getting small, usually harmless cysts or bumps can be one of them. Get it checked anyway since your mom had bad experience but rest assured that it a lot of this is benign and resolves itself over time.

sounds normal. It could be little vessels of blood-polyps, benign. Best wishes.
