Has anyone experienced a placenta praevia type pregnancy?

My baby sits very low in my tummy. She is lower than normal and causes me all sorts of pain, and I have bled a few times because of this. The hospital said it's 'placenta praevia'. I am wondering if any of you have had this in your first pregnancy? I'm 22 weeks along, she's running out of room, and hurting me real bad. If you've had this, what can I do to help sooth the pain? Why wont she move up already? lol, geeze I saw her on the ultrasound and she pretty much occupies the whole sack... I REALLY dont want to have a c-section......
Any experiences?
I heard it happens 1 in every 100 pregnancies, thats freaky.....

Hi i hav placenta previa it was partial but now its full im 21 weeks, i hav been in hospital no end of times already with bledding and had 2 lots of weeks where i hav had to stop in. I am on complete bed rest and cannot work just goin to the loo can set me off bleeding, to me every time i see bright red blood what i think is alot to the hospital its minimal so now i dont panic as much. I am havin a c section as far as i know unless a miracle occurs and my placenta moves but they hav said highly unlikely. meanwhile baby is fine and unaware of any of this xx

Help...I am 12 weeks pregnant and after experiencing light spotting my dr told me my placenta is low- lying. She explained I must refrain from sex...question 1...does this mean orgasms as well? And at what point does the bleeding become something other than the placenta...Im concerned that the heavier bleeding I experienced last night...along with cramps..means I am having a miscarriage...I am now all nerved up everytime I go to the bathroom for fear if I see a clot its means the end ...

Hello, I had placenta praevia with my second child. My son. I had never heard of it before. My mother apparently had it with me. Its where the placenta is ahead of the baby. It can be taken care of with alot of bed rest. You really should talk to your Dr about getting time off work. If the placenta does not move when its time to have the baby they may have to do a C-Section. From what I've heard its a rare thing. Bed rest is the only way I could get through it. But you should go to your Dr. I hope I was of some help

I am 21 weeks pregnant and I have placenta praevia.  I have been to the hospitol 3 times now because of bleeding.  My doctor told me that the bigger the baby gets the more dangerous it is for me (life threatening) is how she put it.  Also that there could be a chance that I start to bleed and will not stop and then at that time I will have to stay in the hospitol until the baby is ready to be born.  I am really hoping that the placenta moves and everything will be okay.  The thought of staying in the hospitol does not thrill me.  This is my 20th pregnancy.  I have 2 girls and had 1 stillborn and numerous miscarriages.  This is the last time I am going to talk to my doctor about getting my tubes tied.  I can't go through this anymore.  Well that is my story feel free to send a message to me.  Thanks for letting me tell my story.

Jenni--the bleeding is because the placenta is literally a sack full of blood/nutrients that supplies the baby while in the uterus.  When the placenta is low, and you do anything stressful...your chances of bleeding, whether a lot or a little, increase.  If the placenta is over the cervix, you will probably experience bleeding--
Have you tried lying in bed and trying to find a position that eliminates the pressure?  If you can find a way to lie down that Cady isn't pressing so much, then I would stay in that position until she gets here....

Oceans3--I didn't know you had a section!!! Both of my kids were sections.  You shouldn't feel less of a woman...just be thankful that the medical knowledge existed to save your baby!

Imagine, both of you, that if our pregnancies were 100 years ago...we'd be in big trouble!
I'm thankful that the option for Csection exists..and now you can have vaginal delivery after section if the 2nd pregnancy is normal and healthy.  No need to worry--just rest and relax.  And Jenni---take it easy!!!

Jenni,

My best friend pregnant with first baby last year had the same as you, she also did not want a C-Section, but was told from 3 months she would have too. However she was forced to start her Maternity leave early and low and behold placenta sorted itself out and left a clear path for natural birth. Due to the baby being in distress when labour started she did have a C Section but not due to PP. Another woman had been in hospital with it from 5 or 6 months as hers was so low.
So you need to rest and not stress. Get a decent doctor and explain your worries.
Good luck

i sense your frustration and you have every reason. while you are waiting for your next appt. go online and look up "placents previa" if you have this early enough in pregnancy, its not as much of a concern as if you have it later in pregnancy. there are different types and I dont know which type you have. reda up on it and see what symptoms fit you and bring it up at your appt. any bleeding again, rest.

hey girl..
this diagnosis is not the most positive and now YOU NEED to be careful if thats what the dr. said you have. this (placenta previa) is actually 1 in 200 pregnancies and can be very serious. it can bring on premature contractions, baby could be breech and sometimes the uterus measures larger than you should according to the dates. if this is what the dr. said you have, the he/she should have said, bedrest and AVOID any strenous activitied such as intercourse, lifting, exercise...i hope you listen.
im sorry to say but usually if you are diagnosed as having placenta pervia that equals c-section. i had a c-sect. unexpectadly and it made me feel less of a woman and bothered me for a very long time. but if its for the safety of the baby then thats what matters most. i never wanted a c-sect and had NO reason to think that i would. it ended up being an emergency and if i had kept pushing my little one would have suffered brain damage. PLEASE just take it easy and rest. the bleeding is not a good sign and cady is trying to tell you to relax!!! MY ORDERS..lol.

a low lying placenta isnt THAT big of a deal, from what I read, but it IS a complication. And with this being my first pregnancy, it's in an awkward spot and stretching things that have never been stretched before. It's a 'drop to my knees and scream' kind of pain. Thank goodness it dosnt last for more than a few minuits. Yesterday I was in Starbucks, and I was going pee, and it hurt SO BAD on my left side. I wanted to scream so loud. I couldnt pee because it hurt, and so that prolonged the pain! lol, it was so weird, and so painful. I just dont get it.
She should move up, but if it dosnt, then I will have to get a c=section. She is laying sideways too, so hopefully she turns upside down!
Having a lowlying placenta can trigger early labor as early as 32 weeks. Scarey!
SO GET THIS!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!
MY DOCTOR THAT I'VE BEEN SEEING... QUIT! SHE DOSNT WORK THERE ANYMORE! SO I FOUND ANOTHER DOCOR AND I CAN'T SEE HIM UNTIL WEDNESDAY! UUGGHH! I went to the hospital LAST Sunday, and STILL havnt been seen! It sucks royal a**.
I didnt even see a doctor at the ER, the nurses took care of me. I was there for 5 1/2 hours.. But it was nice being on the labor and delivery floor... I had my own suit... :-)

Well, I bled again earlier today. I was going #2 this time, and pushing (silly), and I just 'felt' something, and I knew.. I wiped, and there it was. Again, it was very little. I'm utterly depressed and confused. Wed is my doc appt. so we'll see what happens, and what he says...
Gosh, I can't explain how upset I am... My expression was "Are you f***ing kidding me!?? AGAIN!?!"
I have no worries about Cady, I know she's fine.. but I want a reason behind it, and I can't find one yet.

Jenni>> You need to talk to your doctor about not working anymore. It sounds like you need to stay off your feet. Do you notice if you have more cramping at work or while you are on your feet alot?
I never had this problem so I don't have a lot of info but I know there is a lot of info out there about it. What did the doc say? Precautions? Chance of pre-term labor?
I'm sure MH will have more answers for you.

Heather-I've only bled twice in one week... it was painless, but freaked me out. The cramping is caused by HER! lol. In the 5 hours I was at the ER, I only had like 2 contractions. But everything I feel, she causes, and it dosnt feel so good.
I have work, so write me an e-mail...
Anna- I'll have to check up on her posting when I get home... I need to go to work..
Bye!

hey jenni--
I had placenta previa..I'll tell you all about it later.
You can also scroll down to the dates 1-18, and 1-19 and find a question posted by Jen2006.  She asked a similar question and you might find the answers helpful.  However, I never experienced pain with my previa.  What did your doc say?  Any more bleeding?  MH
