Heart Surgery

is it normal for a patient's incision from heart surgery to be itcy, iritated, and/or burn? if so, for how long?

Post-operative incisions often itch from the healing process and this is very normal. "Irritation" could have different meanings to different people. If you have been scratching at your incision because it itches, you could have irritated it. If there is no longer a dressing on the incision, you need to be careful that your scratching does not cause an infection which could possibly result in a burning sensation for some people.
Do you have a fever? Are the signs of irritation getting worse without you scratching it? Is it spreading?
To be on the safe side, I would call your doctor and let him/her know what's going on. They should have sent home a post-operative list of symptoms to watch for. Put your mind at ease and call.
