Help..ruptured ovarian cyst
Hey there my girlfriend recently had an ovarian cyst "explode" during sex...
My questions to anyone who really knows or has had this happen to them:
1. This happend 6 days ago and she still has a little pain in her stomach and slight nausea.......is this normal or does it normally go away sooner. The night it happend she vomitted twice and was admitted to hospital for the night/day. She was on morphine and gravol. When she went home the next day she vomitted again... she never had any fever though but did have a bad headache
2. Are there other complications that can arrise from this and when do we know when to go back to the dr. and demand more tests to be sure it did not amount to something more??

What you is explaining is exactly a cyst, I am having surgury tomorow to have mine removed because I keep developing them and they keep popping.. Not FUn... Feels like somone just blew up your belly with gas, causes pain in the rectum, and I can not function for a day or two when it happens to me.. being 33 and already having all of my (R) ovary removed and most of my (L) ovary removed, I don't recommend taking cysts lightly.. See the Doc, make them give an ultra sound at the first thought that you might have one...Just to rule out anything, and to be sure what kind of cyst you have.. they can get large and twist and push on other organs, causing all sorts of craziness..
On the issue of sex, my poor husband doesn't get to have me very often, cause there always seems to be a new cyst popping and even if I don't know I have one, the thought of sex and popping cysts is very real for me too. I have been in the same situtaion during sex, 2 years ago I felt tons of pain, but didn't want to stop because I wanted to please my husband, then ended up passing out as soon as I got up, hit my head on the tub, that woke me up and I tried getting up, made it about 10 steps before passing out again, lucky my husband caught me that time.(all from the pain), rushed to the emergeny room in an ambulance.
Seems like you love her, be paitent with her.

Has she took a home preg test? it may be a falopian tube pregnancy, I have bad cysts and never had anything like that happen best of luck and let us know what you find we just may have the problem one day down the road

Well, I'm glad she is going in to be seen, and I hope the ER people were correct in their diagnosis because (liquid) ovarian cysts are generally not that serious. And it's nice to know she wasn't grinning and bearing it for your sake. The cyst might not have been that big, or it might have been in a place where there wasn't all the pressure. I do hope they check her for infection. Good luck!
Thanks Annie you are very helpful......but she actually did not know she had a "cyst" until it broke during sex and that when the pain started. She said she felt it happen during and then the pain just got worse and worse.
She has an appt this week and im gonna go with her to make sure we get answers cause something is not right and i'm kind of scared for her. I just hate how some dr. just blow u off like we should know the answers.

Well, a little background on cysts. One ovary puts out an egg per month. (The way this happens is that it kind of erupts out of the surface of the ovary, like a little volcano, and the egg gets caught by these catchers-mitt looking things on the end of the fallopian tubes and pulled into the tubes and down them into the uterus.) Where the egg came from in the ovary is now a little hole. This cavity gets a yellow lining that produces hormones (to support early pregnancy if the egg finds a sperm, etc.) Sometimes, the little hole shuts on itself, and the yellow-lined hole fills with fluid, a combo of water, saline, blood, hormones, and what-have you. If the opening stays shut, the hole will keep filling with liquid. Ovarian cysts can get really big, like the size of a lemon. And they hurt when they get that big! It's pressure, not only on the ovary but on surrounding structures (imagine if you had a liquid cyst getting bigger and bigger inside your testicle. Yowch!!!). If the opening finally opens and lets out the liquid, it can be a major relief, since there is no more distended ovary.
That said, it sounds like what she had inside there shot around inside her whole abdomen. It might be that she is very sensitive to the hormones in the mix, and that is what is making her so sick. (Women get morning sickness from their sensitivity to exactly those hormones, in early pregnancy. Not every female hormone is welcome to the stomach!) It might also be that some infection was starting, but that isn't quite as likely, since she was sick so fast. One question to rule that latter out would be whether she has a fever.
Having something you don't want inside your abdomen (and since it is a closed system, the liquid is unable to get out) can indeed make you feel pretty wretched for a while. Internal bleeding can do this (such as after a car crash) -- while blood is completely normal to the body, it still can hurt like crazy when it is loose in the wrong place. I have had abdominal surgery where they put an inert gas inside my lower abdomen to puff the skin out of the way, and that darn gas stayed in there for days and days, and it made my shoulders ache (it was pushing on nerves that run up to the shoulders). So the pressure from this liquid in the wrong places might be all there is to what is going on.
However, that said, because she is still feeling so bad, she should see her regular ob-gyn and rule out infection.
Also, incidentally, you have a very nice girlfriend if she was willing to have sex when she had an ovarian cyst. That pressure is really, really hard to take when having it hit by a you-know-what; can be like taking a hit in the cojones. So be thankful she is so kind to you, even at her own cost.

No they didnt say anything to her... they did an ultrasound and said "looks like an ovarian cyst ruptured and there is fluid from it (didnt say what kind of fluid) all over ur stomach...even up high.
I asked what we have to do and the dr. said nothing just wait it out.......but i dont think that sounds right seeing as she isnt much better

Usually the rupturing of a liquid-filled ovarian cyst is a relief. Does she know it was just filled with fluid? Given that it was so violent for her, she definitely should see the doctor again.
