Hip/Low Back Pain

Hi all

I have had lower back stiffness and an ache at the base of my back on the right side over my hip bone, my hip sometimes feels bruised to the touch at night my whole right hip aches so bad it wakes me up. I started putting a pillow between my knees and it has helped.

I saw a massage therapist who says my right hip is not lined up right but would that cause all this pain ? At tuimes it goes up my side like my appendix or something is going bad or something but Dr says that's been too long and it would have burst by now. I've had Pelvic ultrasounds on ovaries but they say they look good except a very small cyst on right side that should not cause this pain.

I have a few problems with my back, herniated disks in C5&6 and T11-12....could this pain be from the T zone herniations? I'm told they are small.

The hip pain does not affect my leg at all but up the right side of my back I'm getting achy as well, possibly because my muscles are tense from worry, I'm not sleeping well at all from worry.

Any ideas what could be going on with me? I'm very concerned about ovarian cancer.

"worm my way"----
Ha ha--
You're right, we're "inching" away from the original post...
Oh well, we'll try to "slither" back to the regular topic.

Have a great day everyone--and thanks for the laughs!!

i thought maryheathers post was pretty funny too (that gave me an invitation to be funny back). glad you got some giggles. laughter is the best medicine right?
i was going to tell her not "to worm her way" over to the mental health forum and to stay here with us but i figured the bed bugs joke was enough. then i felt bad for the origional poster who was inquiring about hip/low back pain. seem to have lost sight of that along the way and it got changed to another topic. i guess thats the way it goes sometimes.

Ha--you made me laugh a little at myself.
No, I have no symptoms, other than the ones in my head!!

Maybe I need to be posting in the mental health forum?????  :)

Thanks for responding and I've learned to NEVER look up symptoms on the internet, because according to what I've read, I could have some 20 ft long parasite that has lived in my gut for up to 20 years...blah blah blah.  This is a scary place, especially for those of us with some level of knowledge.  Maybe there is truth to the phrase "ignorance is bliss..."

I'm fine, just OCD and a worry wart.

Have a great day, all!!

thank you for your compliment. you always give good advice yourself and have compassion.

ya know, i was thinking a bit more about your situation. I DONT KNOW THIS FOR SURE but isnt pinworm the only worm that rests in the feces, anal canal? so if you are 100% its not pinworm then what other parasite/worm would you be seeing? right?
think about everything you ate and if thats what you are seeing in your "poo". anything from strawberries, other fruits with seeds, even seeds from a hamburger bun. also, if you eat lots of garlic, i will admit, i have seen that in my poo.

if you really did have some worm present, your body would be reacting in other ways. you'd have other symptoms. i worry a lot too. once i thought..okay, twice..that i had tape worm because i was always very hungry even after i ate. i didnt.

i think we have some things in common (not worms i hope!)no, i too am a worrier. if im not worrying about something, i will find something to worry about. believe it or not i was hesitant to say anything about me thinking i had tape worm..i didnt want to go give you any ideas!! hee hee. yes, dont look up things on the internet. you will develop symptoms and drive yourself crazy. its great to be informed but sometimes too much info. can work against us! youre fine.
take care and dont let the bed bugs bite. i'm mean huh? i couldnt resist and you seem like you can laugh too.

I know what you mean about learning WAY more than you ever wanted to know when your kids get sick. So I'm sure you know that you could take a stool sample into the dr. for a diagnosis. I remember when I was in Med Asst. school and we were learning about parasites. The entire class was less than thrilled with that class and hoped we would never see such a thing. But wouldn't you know it, my first week on the job and a mom brought in her two sons with two jars of samples with VERY obvious parasites present. And I had to act like I had seen it a thousand times.LOL It really wasn't that big of a deal and the doc taught me a lot. Especially about how common it really is.
If you are certain that you don't have the pinworms that your kids had then I can only suggest that you just go see the doc and take a sample for testing. I know it can be hard but it really is best to be safe than sorry and the worry you must feel over it can't be good. kjsk was right on the money about them and the female and tape etc.. In fact they can be "caught" with the tape when they poke their heads out. I know, it is so gross to even think about. Maybe you are just eating too many seeds, tomato, sesame etc... Good Luck and I hope it's nothing.

Regarding the worm.  OK, so you guys figured out what I had.  But in my case, it wasn't pinworm, it was an Ascarid, or roundworm.  I was horrified, when finally the upper barium series revealed it to me and the doctors. I immediately got a very strong medicine for it (I was dizzy, as if poisoned myself from the medicine), but a couple of days later, I saw the worm as it finally left my body (dead of course). It was about 8 inches long.  Sorry to be so graphic,  I still look at my stool, and this was 15 years ago, that's how much it traumatized me. I picked it up on vacation in Cozumel, Mexico.  I have not been back there since, and have no desire to return, ever.  I have no idea how I got it. I did eat watermelons and other fruits, so who knows.  The symptoms were bloatedness, occasional diarrhea, weight loss, and I felt a little tired, but that's all.  I was definitely not debilitated, but did feel like something drastically changed with me.  The only reason I brought this up is as a lesson for all of you:  Believe in your knowledge of your own body.  If suddenly, you notice drastic changes, don't believe any doctor who says it's a stress related problem.  If you feel sick, and not your "usual self", please don't stop looking for the answer, no matter what doctors say.  If I had stopped my tests after the third doctor told me I had irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), I might be dead by now, who knows.

Thanks for responding--I know that I definitely don't have pinworms b/c I have become the pro at pinworm detection!!  It so sick when your kids have something, you become knowledgable about things you never want to know about.  I was just curious about the little things that I was seeing, which may be as simple as something that I ate that isn't digestable????
I know this is all so disgusting.  I have a tendency toward OCD and a little hypochondria--if I read about it, see it or hear about it, I can have it!!
I hate that I'm that way, but as least I recognize it for what it is.  Thanks for your kind reply!
By the way, you and JoAnna are the two people that I always look for.  Your answers are always informative, direct and usually right-on the money!
Have a great night.

i dont think you have to go to any other country to get a worm infection/parasite since pinworm is the most common worm infection here in the us. its most common in children.
origionally, i would say that you may not have reason to think you have the worms.. that was until you said your kids had it.
im sure you know this already though since you've already been through it w. them but here it goes...EEK!

pinworms are less than 1/2 inch and live in the rectum. while you are sleeping, the female worm leaves the anus and lands her eggs around the skin of your rectum. this causes itching there, restless sleep, and irritability. you may also lose your appetite.
i guess you can actually "test" to see if the worms are present. you take a piece of scotch tape and apply it to your anal hole. if the eggs are present they will stick to the tape. look for white wiggly threads. you should do it 1st thing in the a.m. because wiping, bowel movements or showering will rid the eggs. those things can live for about 2 wks on clothes, sheets..

does this sound like anything you have? since your kids had it i would be worried too. you can get a kit from the dr. and do a test. also, if you do the tape test, you can also take it in to the dr. an they can test it for you. i hope you dont have this. creeps me out as im sure it does you. let us know ok?

Sounds like possibly a Lumbar region problem. Have you had an MRI of the Lumbar spine since this pain started? If not, and given your history of spinal problems in other areas, I'd get an MRI in that area.

I don't know if you feel the liberty to discuss your parasite experience here, but I have a few questions if you don't mind answering...(or anyone else for that matter).  I have never travelled, or been to any 3rd world country, but I am concerned that I may have a parasite.  I have what I would call "seed" looking things when I go to the bathroom.  They are about the size of a tomato seed??? I don't really know, and I could be totally obsessing over nothing.  I have no gastrointestinal problems, just the occasional itch that comes with hemorrhoids.  Bowels are regular, but my kids had pinworms about 4 months ago, so I have taken to examining things when we go to the bathroom.  (Gross, huh?)  I feel a little crazy, I just was wondering if anyone knew about the symptoms of parasitic infection, or if anyone else has ever seen anything when they go to the bathroom.  I tried to find examples online, but couldn't find anything other than "grains of rice"...and that's not what it looks like.  How do you get checked?? Is there a blood test?  Am I crazy??? Please help, because I feel like I'm losing it--

Hi, I have very similar pain.  Lower back, more to the right, as well as hip pain, with occasional piercing pain that hovers in the area of my ovaries, or my ureters (leading from the kidney).  I also have been tired, and wake up with swollen finger knuckles.  Arthritis?  I've also been having other symptoms that you might not have, such as way too much clear mucus discharge at ovulation.  My last period was also abnormally heavy.  I had an ultrasound after that, and they said everything looks fine inside.  I'm going in for more tests in the coming weeks, because I just don't trust doctors.  I have personal experience for how they can miss something big: I had a nasty intestinal parasite for 8 months, which went undiagnosed by 3 gastroenterologists.  They told me I have IBS.  The 4th one found the real culprit.  A nasty, third world parasite, too gross to describe.  So ever since then, I don't believe doctors.  I believe only myself, and I keep searching for answers until one rings true!!!
