How can I have milk production if I'm not pregnant?

I am 32, I have had the Mirena IUD in for over three years and I am positive that I am NOT pregnant. Two months ago during my period I noticed some sensitivity in my right breast. I thought it was just the usual PMS symptom or that one of my daughters had elbowed me in that breast while we were playing. Then this month, my right breast again began hurting. As I examined my breast I noticed it was only sore off to the right side of the nipple so I checked to see if I had any discharge, and instead of a discharge, milk came out. I understand that breasts make milk long after weaning your kids from breastfeeding, but that has been a long time ago and there has not been any milk up until this period. WHAT is going on? Could it be hormonal or a symptom of the Mirena?

I had it mines just cleared up maybe 5 to 6 months ago. I could express milk from my breast and my daughter is 4 years old now... I think Mirena did have something to do with it but I can't prove it but from personal experience I could still express milk from my breast until my hormones got back on track. Which was almost one year and a half after getting mirena removed

I could be wrong but i thought the mirena was hormone free...i'm not really sure what to say about that unless it wasn't milk and it was just a white discharge i would go to the doc and get that checked out! sorry i wasn't much help
